Subaru spent lot of R& D designing the factory air box and it works. Even the factory pannel filter can suport some decent power.

Yeh not denying that at all. Something I'm very well aware of. I just remembered that the issue occurred with the stock box and engine also. Previous to the build I never, never bothered with CAI due to the reason you just stated.

Mostly power limitations, once your getting near 250kw at the wheels the Cv ( flow ) rate falls away. Its like trying to suck a golf ball through a 5mm ID straw

Dropped the car back to TMS yesterday arvo at 4pm. Got home just after 5pm and got a phone call from Jamie at 5:15 saying "your car is fixed". Wasn't expecting him to look at it until Friday...

Yeh... so apparently the problem was just a f#@king rubber hose (MAP sensor to manifold). One end is in clear view and easily accessible, with a ziptie on it. The other end is tucked away with no ziptie on it and was deteriorated and not sealing properly. The same thing happened over a year ago and two workshops scratched their head over it but Jamie managed to find the problem. He found it again!

Pick the car up this arvo so we'll see how long the new hose lasts. To get a ziptie on the other end I have to pull off the alternator to get enough access to it.

If the rubber is perishing that fast you might want to replace it with something like viton hose if you can get it in the right ID. A few places in Wangara sell it, or ebay.

Racetorque put some blue tube from my waste gate actuator to the bcs several years ago, pretty sure it's viton. I hate the look of it but it seems bullet proof for that application.

Touch wood, the car is driving beautifully! The only down side is that I have lost the snap, crackle and pop now it's running as it should. lol. Car is far more responsive now, so I have two more Whoopass Wednesday meets to see if I can improve my launches and thus time.
