There is going to be some fairly epic updates coming shortly! Well, at least for me as there's not many others who share my enthusiasm for audio.

Over the past few weeks I have been gathering together a few new car audio purchases for a new set up (3-way active, currently running 2-way active). I am about to strip out my entire system and redo everything myself in an OCD, neat-freak install. I have never done any sort of metalwork in my life before this (we only had woodwork in my days at school). I used my school's design & technology rooms to knock up a "bus-bar" that will accept 3 grounding terminals under the bonnet. Battery negative will run to bus-bar, the other two terminals grounding to chassis, with the bar attaching to a location on the engine for another ground. Although it's really, really simple I am absolutely stoked at the finish. The aluminium was wet sanded with 400, 800 then 1200 grit, then hit it with a Dremel and abrasive brush for a nice satin/billet finish.

Once all my new goodies arrive in the post, I'll update with some more photos.

Default Project SQ (Part 1)

I spent this weekend starting off my car stereo installation by adding new battery terminals and tidying up some wiring...

Not mine, but this is the stupid positive battery terminal that Subaru put in their cars. Unfortunately there wasn't enough slack in the cables to cut them and crimp on some new lugs. This meant attacking them with a Dremel...

Negative battery turdimal:

Some rough cutting done, now time for some grinding action:

Grinding, grinding....

Shiny!

I removed all of the plastic Subaru harnesses as well as the convoluted tubing and tape from the fuse box loom. The aim was to freshen it all up as well as neaten the entire arrangement.

New convoluted tubing, Techflex braid and Nitto self-amalgamating tape:

These clamps are made by Stinger and are supposed to be for 4AWG power wire. When everything is finished I will trim off the unused half-loops and sand/polish it all out.

Temporary power and ground arrangement until the next lot of cabling gets done.

I was actually waiting for you to nitpick something Bram, haha. The terminal fucks with my OCD because it's gold (nickel, brass? dunno wtf it's made of) and the Stinger terminals are chrome. Wish I could thinly tin it somehow.

Probably a copper alloy of somesort. Copper is a very good conductor. Probably better than anything chrome plated.

You could probably put some flux down then tin it with solder if you really didnt like the colour.

It seemed much, much harder than copper. Unless you're able to harden it for these sorts of applications? I did think about trying to tin it with the soldering iron but I reckon I'd just make a complete mess of it.

Brass.
It's an alloy of copper and zinc and can be soldered (tinned) as long as it's clean. You may need some proper flux.
