However!!!!
The standard WRX/STi has coilover suspension..
They are just not adjustable.
The way I read the regulations is if you are changing the suspension for a different design you need to get it engineered.
As long as you are runing at a reasonable ride height.

I would like to know how the DOT interpret that to be honest.

I cannot find where I read it though

From some light reading;

Coil-over suspension is able to be fitted providing it is a direct replacement component and utilities all the original manufactures mounting points.
You are permitted to lift or lower your vehicle's ride height by adjusting the suspension. The rebound travel measured between the rubber rebound stop and the corresponding metal stop (or the extension of the shock absorber for vehicles without a rebound stop) may be reduced by no more than one third (1/3) of the original manufacturer's specification.
This is classified as a "minor modification", and does not require formal written approval - i.e engineers certificates.

has to meet ADR, be more than 100mm and be locking. That's my understanding of the laws

So I was correct then?
as long as it's not made by some kids in a Veitnemese sweat shop and you don't have it scrapping on it's arse!

Few minor updates;

Found the last 3 Defi's to have a full matching set of 6 - EGT, Boost, Water + Oil Temp, Fuel + Oil Pressure

The pillar ones will be cleaned up and polished, plus the outer ring painted black to match the center ones

Currently on the hunt for a dual 60mm pillar pod (impossible to find) and to keep it *legal* will be running one gauge in the aircon vent or in one of the custom fab pods I have that sit on the dash near the bottom of the A pillar.

OnBoost autos listed an 05 STI wheel which I impulse bought - very happy with it

New Pioneer double DIN rounds off the cockpit nicely

Flush mount reverse camera fitted;

Had to go low due to ZERo room on the rear of my car haha

Result;

Also due to having excessive free time this week I ordered this;

Engine Wise;

New Ultrex 3" TBE fitted, oval/angle tip to quieten things down a bit and draw *slightly* less attention to myself :P

Initial dyno run saw 311 HP @ hubs with the newer ratio gerabox/diff = 3.54

Sean worked his magic and ended up with ~340 HP @ hubs and 430nm

Room for more but it's a daily so on the safe side of the fence

Next up is Brembo repaint.

Feeling bold so I'm thinking something along these lines;

OR:

Big O will be handling the task

Needed something quieter as I mentioned above, plus I wanted a change of note, got bored of the butler as it's been on there for the 5 years I've owned the car

Done (for now)

Pioneer double DIN.

S203/4 red hazard switch

Installed the AL Priority LED in the cluster surround (easier to view status)

Suede/red shift boot

Custom aircon gauge pod and double a pillar.

05 STI wheel

Brembo respray is next on the list.

Just had Daniel @ Dentcure come out and remove a majority of the unsightly dents on the car, extremely happy with his work, just wish i had taken some pictures.

Trying to get a decent pic of the aircon vent gauge pod, need to invest in a decent camera, but the pics don't do the wrinkle black combo any justice;

Cockpit looks like it's cleared for takeoff!!

So many gauges, looks very clean from the pics though.

Probably this shittest start to my R&R imaginable this week.

Approaching the intersection/lights on Hepburn Ave/Gibson Ave in Padbury on Wednesday night on the way home, 3 cars lined up to turn onto Gibson ave through the lights. They have a green light but obviously give way to oncoming traffic.

First 2 cars go through, the second cutting it fine (I recall saying to the gf "cheeky shit"), so I tap the brakes to cancel cruise control and slow down.

As I am about 5m out from the intersection, a green p plater in a brand new Impreza for some reason that I still can't comprehend makes the decision to go.

Hit the brakes, ABS kicks in and I turn slightly left to try avoid the inevitable.

Collided at ~40/50km/h, no airbags and no injuries luckily.

Glad I was paying attention as It could have been into my driver's door had I not.

Car is at the SGIO assessment yard due for assessment on Monday. I'm fairly confident that its a write off due to the highest agreed value I could get being not much -11k

(was on my list of jobs this week to swap to Shannon's and bump the value to 18k - isn't that always the way)

So my plan is to buy the car back (I have salvage rights on my policy so will get it towed home and on stands in the garage) Buy a gas falcon for a run around.

Grab all the fruit - snail, injectors, ECU, fuel pump, audio, interior that I will be swapping into the next one I purchase.

At this stage I am hoping to find another white Bug STI, or a late 05 STI - DCCD and 5x114.3 to replace mine and start again.

Heartbreaking to see something you have poured 5 years worth of time and money into go down the drain, inexperience and not having the patience to wait another 5 seconds to make a turn.

Having written my first WRX off due to the same reasons, I only hope the young bloke learns a lesson from it.

Just thankful no one was injured as I could have been typing this from a hospital bed.
