So just to be clear for everyone so that they stop hasseling you... After the 1k run in, you have booked it in for a tune? A proper tune?
I don't want to see it busted again Cat. If this conversion has cost you say 15k, a tune of 1.5k is a small price to pay.

Yes that is what I'm trying to say, the 1K run in is to make sure everything is working properly before it goes on the dyno and during this run in time I will be buying a few parts and I just need to save the money for the tune and ecu and as soon as I have that it will be booked in for a proper tune. I don't want things to break so I'm just doing what the professionals tell me. On the conversion and rebuild it's only cost about 9k.......how much I've spent on the car though, well lets not go there

Fingers crossed for you Cat.
So for those inexperienced folk; is this a similar process as buying a new car i.e getting the cylinders to groove and bed in to the block or more a case of just checking there are no issues with the re-build before upping the boost on the dyno? Take it easy on your first few events in it too, last thing you'd want after all this pain is to understeer into a bollard or something and write the front end off.

I haven't built and run in many highly strung engines... but I've never blown one up either. Here's what I've done in the past with zero issues. 1. Tune it. At least check AFR's. 2. Non-synthetic oil for 1000k's ish. 3. Drop oil after 50kms and inspect for metal bits. The re-fill with mineral oil again. 4. Drive it hard. Vary rpm/load across all gears and entire rev range. 5. Find a big hill, put it in a high gear and make it labour/work up the hill. Come back down the hill in a lower gear/under compression/over-run. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for 1000kms 7. Synthetic oil. 8. Check tune. Ensure boost is set to 2bar. 9. Skids. At the end of the day, follow your tuners advice. (Unless of course you don't believe in tuning/don't have a tuner.) EDIT: I agree with most of the techniques here: http://stmtune.wordpress.com/2011/09...y-built-motor/
