I'm always intrigued by the torque fall off in hub dynos. Scary questions it often and I remember reading Jester explaining ... now to find that post.
I'm a bugger power give me bulk of torque type ....

My 2cents regarding torque falling off:
1) The 1.5 is not a huge turbine. It can only hold so much boost at the top end. 2) Top end torque can be pushed up by advancing more timing. However, for an engine like Gav's to hold 150Psi in each cylinder after 3 turbine changes and tunes, we choose not to push it harder, while maintaining the engine in a pristine condition. 3) For metric conversion:- P=Power, kW T=Torque, Nm N=Engine rotational speed, rpm P=T*pi*N/30000 or approximately T*N/9550 1 PS = 0.73549875 kW = 0.986320 hp for imperial conversion. As RPM increases, torque has to fall off. Last edited by mao; 22-08-2013 at 09:48 PM. Reason: spell chk |

I disagree with Matt's opinion though.
Obviously torque has to drop it is the nature of an engine as Mao pointed out, however I see no reason for not retaining 80% for at least 1000rpm or more. This plot is not as severe as some others that have been put up though

Well worth every cent of the asking price, those who have been in it or have had the pleasure of driving it know.

Well the title of this thread is now wrong, the Sti was sold and went a few weeks ago!
My new ride is a 2011 Golf R, certainly a class or two above the Sti, and with the DSG gearbox is no slouch. So far the mods have been :- . Stage 1.5 Spec Tune . Down/dump pipe . Throttle controller . Alpine sound system with 8 inch screen and focal speakers The car is all class, leather interior, heated seats and the list goes on!
