would have been nice to be told the solenoid was fucked as they obviously knew. 70 dollar part. now staring at 1700 for a retune. ecucrap. think it would also explain the lazy behaviour.

well he recommended I start playing with the restrictor pill.. would that have classified as tampering and wiped his own hands clean then? would have fixed nothing and continued to throw codes. i freighted the car back n forth so we never met. i could have been a 17yo kid for all he knew. turns out bypassing the dicky solenoid was the best thing we could have done. as mentioned it has not thrown a code since. i do live in geraldton and its not as easy as just a short drive to the shop for them to have a look.

OK...so this is my old car which had ECUTek tuned originally by MMS. From my understanding, the engine rebuild was not done by MMS and they haven't re-tuned the car...is this correct? AFAIK, a re-tune after engine rebuild would cost in the vicinity of $600 - $700.

yep, thats the case nauli. rebuilt by s-technic.. the number i was quoted was to upgrade to "racerom" and for the solenoid. 6-700 sound more reasonable for sure. the engine was built to the exact same specs so it has been running perfectly fine on old tune. to our knowledge at the time it was on factory wastegate pressure of 1 bar being well within tolerances for a/f ratios.

So why don't you just replace the boost solenoid and have the tune checked and adjusted if necessary....then your rebuilt engine will be safe...I assume you could drive it down from Geraldton...?

I would have personally gotten it towed to tuner after engine rebuild regardless of "same specs" or not. But that's just the overly cautious, anal retentive in me...
