I always thought drivetrain loss in AWD systems was closer to 25-30%

It's definitely not that high but I guess it depends on the car and how healthy the drivetrain actually is.

Sorry for the hijack RJ

Drivetrain loss cannot be a percentage of horsepower - if we worked on that theory then the more power the engine makes the more power the drivetrain sucks away

Spot on Shane...the relationship isn't a straight line....and obviously will depend on type (hub or rolling) and brand of dyno. However straight line extrapolation will give a rough idea of ATW to flywheel. As a rough guide, I seem to remember that a 206 kw STi made around 145 -149 ATW...

Drivetrain loss is not directly related to total power. But it is related to the rate at which you accelerate the drivetrain.

The components in the drivetrain have mass, and inorder to get them spinning it requires energy. The faster you accelerate them, the more energy it saps. Plus ontop of that you also have frictional loss aswell. That is what makes up drivetrain loss's.

On the road, the rate of acceleration, and therefore drivetrain loss is locked into the vehicle road speed. On a dyno, you can change the way the dyno loads the car, and therefore control the way the drivetrain accelerates.

I seem to remember Ecutek quoting transmission losses of circa 18% when referring to their road dyno software.

My take on it is that It's never going to be an accurate figure as there are way too many variables. On a 500bhp car 18- 20% seems to be about right. It's a guideline. It's never going to be 10% and it's never going to be 30% but it will give you an idea when you compare the bhp and whp. I'll ask for both when I get mine done and work out the losses from there.

The dom2.5 should hold strong to 7k. It would make sense that the factory airbox could slow the spool as I have noticed that even at this size and beyond even a step up to 3 inch inlet becomes noticeable.

The main thing is that you are loving it.

It should hold up fine to 8k from what I've been reading about it, on 85 we'll try push the rev limit a little higher maybe 7600, depending on how it reacts on the dyno on tune day, leaving it to Sean's decision.

You're right if I put a CAI in or airbox/pod of some sort it will help a whole lot, I think I'll just wait for e85 first then decide...I really don't want to go CAI yet as the car is super loud as it is, plus I'll do it when I go aftermarket ecu.
