Yeah get covers and put a handful of sand and rocks between the pad and disc. Gets you the authentic noise.

So had a slow week and decided to put some extra DEI tape along the top / underside of the intercooler.

Up nice and early this morning for the P-WRX track day: oil checked, tyres (crap but have air in them) and helmet... got a light wash on the way too, so that was a bonus.
The weather was awesome; 22 - 26*c and even a little rain to take the temps down and make the track greasy. The car preformed great, much better then the last track day where I was seeing 38*c temps! My biggest issue was tyres, they are almost 3 years old (according to Yoko date stamp) and I have put them through at heaps of heat cycles. They were OK for a few laps but would then start to either push or try to let the back step out out of corners. The brakes and intercooler held up great and the heat shielding / DEI tape had done their jobs again and stopped some heat soak while waiting in line. I changed the water spray nozzles to some cheapies I had in my tool box. Less squirt, more spray so better coverage over the intercooler which meant it was actually cold to touch when I pulled in and popped the bonnet. The highlights of the day would be the two great 4500 - 5000RPM launches, cracking the wastegate open, wheelspin, minimal clutch and then slingshot down the skid pan. The second was taking my dads EVO X and Jacobs Custard Cow GC8 for some laps. Was good to compare my car to two completely different vehicles. So now the car will be retired from track work until May, in that time it will be getting some upgrades / maintenance: - 245/45R18 RE003 (or RE11) tyres - new coil packs - new spark plugs - oil change - repaint the intake manifold - alignment - axle back exhaust (oval muffler) If I have some extra $$$ after my wedding these will be on the agenda: - Process West Top Mount Intercooler - Upgrade water spray - ASG retune - STI quick steering rack To cap my day off had a quick Forester meet at the Stirling Council House and quick coast run. Car went very nicely mate! Was not expecting gate when i jumped in :p

Thanks Lachy (thanks for organising it too)
Glad I caught you off guard :3gears: |
Decided to take off the 'sports' lights and put he stockies back on. I think they look much better, but public opinion is divided. (sorry for the crap photo)
Also anyone know how to peel off vinyl wrap (on my bonnet) the easiest way without a heat gun? My plan was; 1 - remove the scoop / washer nozzles and peel back all the edges 2 - sit the car in the sun for a few hours to soften it up 3 - peel it back and clay bar / polish the car I do have a pissy little heat gun that I can use to help when needed but I doubt it would be enough to do the whole thing without some help from the sun. |
How long has the wrap been on there for?
Heat gun makes it easier cause you can do it in the shade and not in the sun at 2/3pm. A band new knife blade and quite a few hours depending on how long it has been on there. I just took the blue of the roof of the STi and it would have been 6 hours of work to remove it. Probably 2 of that was just cleaning the glue off. But all mine was burnt badly to the point that the green was black haha using the Perth-WRX mobile app |
It's 3M Carbon Wrap, 2 - 3 years old and in good condition (on the surface). I am pulling the scoop and nozzles out tomorrow and might just leave it out to see how easy it is to peel up.
Gauging from that I might try to beg, borrow or buy a heat gun. Rather $80.00 on a heat gun then $300+ on a bonnet respray. |
