One rule I think needs implementing is that 'P' plates should be displayed adjacent to the number plate of the car, not jammed in the corner of the back window disguised by dark tint. 'P' plates are intended to serve a purpose, that of alerting other drivers to your inexperience at driving, it's not something you should be ashamed of and try to hide. For your safety others need to know to give you a more cautious approach.

So you *must* be a safe driver then, right?

to lose three demerits you still have to be going quite a bit over the limit?
if it was for a speeding offence that is

I don't see the big deal about the new law. I put in my l's and p's stint in SA where I think we had two demerit points to begin with. And I'm pretty sure anything over 10kmh would be automatic loss of licence, likewise having a zero tolerance to alcohol. So quite frankly in my opinion, is that what WA P-platers have had in the past is lenient to say the least. I'm all for it, and I haven't lost touch with what it's like being that age as I'm only 23 now. Drive within the limits of the law and having 10 or 2 or 100 points won't make a blind bit of difference. Toughen up, deal with it for however many years you've got your P's, and by the time you get off of them you might be closer to understanding the reason why the po po are tough on young drivers. I don't have enough fingers to count the young lives I've seen lost on the roads back home due to inexperience and the failure to make the correct judgement at speed.

if you were a safe driver, you would not have understeered while full throttle overtaking a car on a corner.
Can you not see what is wrong there? |
