Thanks heaps for the tips though, appreciate it.

Let us know how you go, hopefully you don't get dicked around. It's not uncommon for dealers to avoid problems until the car is out of warranty... Here's hoping the issue is sorted!

For an ej257. Yes. It really is. Normal.

It's not good, but it's normal.

When a tuning shop tells you your 3 port valve is busted and trys to sell you a boost controller to replace it

Then get a tune a year later and a different shop and the valve is perfectly fine and in working order

I kNow where i will never be going anywhere near again

Grrrrr

Just a few things on all of this.

I have a 06 STi 2.5 turbo and between services using Genuine Subaru service pack uses about 100mL of oil between services (10k). Warranted its stock and my wife uses it as a daily. It even has a weepy rocker cover aswell...

I have a 08 (2 litre i know) JDM 207 i use for my track only car. It is tuned for around 300+Hp and is literally used for racing (10 to 15 laps full tilt). It uses (blowby) about 50ml per track day

1L per 1000km is not normal. Subarus do not use that much oil. if they do, something is inherently wrong.

If this was normal, Subaru would not be in business.

Mitch is getting it looked at now by an actual subaru dealer and will publish the results... I hope

edit: Andy, surely that it cant be normal? really? every 257 engine uses 10 litres of oil per service interval?

I think the thing to take from this is check your oil between services.

Will confirm the above, tuned EJ257, tracked on occasion, driven like it's stolen, and I almost never have to top up oil between services (Mobil 1 fully synthetic).

Whilst Subarus can exhibit a higher oil consumption than some other makes and dependent on driving style anything above the occasional top up is a sign of an underlying issue.

1L per 1000 Kms being "normal" is simply rubbish.

There is a known issue with the FB engines though ... http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/sub...ion-1600566355

Default Things that shit me V7.0

When the first 06sti's came out. Subaru brought out a press release stating that 1 litre every 1000-1200km was normal. I know it's not normal, that's terrible. But they inherently burn more oil than their smaller brothers. Some cars aren't effected anywhere near as much as others. But 08sti's were easily the worst. Poor things were running themselves dry!

I guess I was a little overstepping the mark by saying it was normal. A back pedal as you would say. It's no more normal - But certainly not unusual.

My experience with oil consumption on the 257 is -
Below about 4000rpm the motor will use a little oil. say about 1L per 10,000km or less.
But above 5000rpm, much more. 1L per 1000 km is possible.
The solution for 257 owners concerned about oil consumption, drive below 4000rpm.
(Could be useless advice on this forum).

Using a heavier grade oil, say a 20-50 in place of 20-40 may work but I would not go that way.
