Ok FTE is the term for fixed term employment not full time employment, which is what 85% of Chevron's full time staff are hired on....cunts!

9 years you would have had a good payout plus long service paid...walked out smiling

Lots of companies cap redundancies at five years now. Lots of people getting the boot from my workplace too, over 300 this year...

BTW, sorry to be making fun of redundancies, fully appreciate the situation, myelf having been through 3 org design in 2 years (Survived), with 1 more pending aug / oct.. It's fair to say you learn to accept and use humour to get through and accept its the new world / way...

and if you work in Engineering, in the mining game, like I do, most of us are on contract (hourly rate). When you're let go, there is nothing, no payout. You just got told to go, you get your stuff and walk out the door.

Suppose thats why its called contract. But I've been on 'contract' for over 10 years.. thats a long contract

I'm not Gonna count my chickens, but reading everyone here is worried about redundancies and what not. In yet I've fielded 3 phone calls from friends in the industry wanting me to come work for them. Not gonna lie, feels good. I'm glad I never ventured up north.
Contract work is fantastic but when it ends its never pretty.

if you are in the mining services, all I can say is good luck in the next 2-3 years. if you think the current job market is bad, you ain't see nothing yet.
AWDmoke, TROLLEY and amtrapid like this.

Reading about Saudi increasing output to max isn't going to support oil prices either. Probably more rationalising to come I dare say.

Sorry to all those impacted. It can be a scary time.
