I bought some 04 wrx rims and before putting them on my car I decided to give them a good clean as there was alot of break dust on from the previous owner.

I have used several wheel/tyre cleaning products to get most of it off, however on the back of the rim (can see in the pic below) there is still some stubborn marks that do not come off.





Any ideas/products that will get this off?

aside from a mechanical aid and a professional polishing compound you will struggle with off the shelf cleaning products.

anything from josco works really well, just like this kit for the home buff...sorry couldn't help myself! find it anywhere, even bunnings!

i cleaned up a set of rims i got a s/hand a while back - they had bulk brake dust grease almost fused onto the wheel lol. i used a wire brush to get as much as possible off (dry), then i used septone wax & grease remover, with an old rag, seemed to do the job. fairly time consuming though.

using wire brush etc will get all the grime off, but the inside of the wheel will most probably also have some corrosion, so to get it perfect you would have to buff as well as per ramon's post

or as an alternative, you could take them in to be sandblasted then repainted/powdercoated

Have been trying all arvo and still not coming off, i think it is little patches of corrosion.

Will try Ramon's suggestion with the buffer tomorrow.

yeah they look like a bit more than buffing needed.. looks pretty bad ,

hope you got them cheap.

take it to a mag place mate best bet.

Mag doctor do a great job,

Dont waste your time, they looked fkd. Whatever hydrofluric acid/wheel cleaner wont take off, it aint coming off. take it to get sanded and re powdercoated/resprayed
