Question time:

So, today we removed the wiring, all the gearbox bolts that we could see which where directly connected to the motor etc and weren't able to split it (get the engine free from the gearbox), are there any hints or tips people can give, or things/areas to look at when removing the stock motor? I knew it was going to be tight but it feels like we may have missed something.

Do the gearbox bolts at the top need to be loosened for the engine to give, or am I missing something?

If anyone has the workshop manual on the AUDM01 Bug for engine removal, or can post a link to a good guide (note I love big pictures ), that would be fantastic. I'll be hitting the web for anything I can find, also hoping that the local public library may have a Gregory's or equivalent I can make copies of.

Yes I know its hard to diagnose something like this without looking at it but please feel free to post apprentice stories, stories of your own etc as its probably going to be similar to this issue.

Cheers in advance.

Remove starter motor and the 10mm hex bolt behind it. This covers the end of the clutch pivot rod. Screw a M6 bolt into the clutch rod as a handle and draw it out of the hole. If you don't release the clutch pivot you either won't get the engine separated or you'll root the clutch in the process.

Ring me tomorrow if you don't understand and I'll step you through it.

not sure if you've considered doing a full sti conversion, i would personally be buying a full car off kris (sku81) for around $16k
eg:

1 X 2007 JDM sti 2L complete drive train and some body panels full interior and parts(everything but the shell) $16200 inc GST delivered to Aus(Brisbane)

you'll be looking at around 7-8k just buiding the 207 with reco heads gaskets etc

just my 2c
