Pioneer all fuck up eventually. Yes they are OK products but they dont last. Waste of an investment. Ask our main supported stereo shops like Westside sound and image - they dont sell Pioneer for a reason.

Worked at Westside Car Audio in Cannington for several years "back in the day"

My choice of brands still stands:

Deck: 1. Alpine 2. Pioneer. 4. Clarion 5. Anything else.. SONY/Kenwoodifhecould etc.

Speakers: High end Splits for the front *with crossovers but not top of the range $1000 3 ways just good quality tweeters and mids ~$200 - $600 range would yeild better high end. MB Quartz, Focal for the fronts if you can afford them. Rears - Meh some 2 way middle of the range speakers - 6x9" will fill out that needed midrange bass.

SUB/s - All depends on the car and your style of music: I love 2 x 12" subs but the smaller the punchier the bass, Ive done hundreds of custom installs ive heard 1 x 10" in a ported box sound far better than two 15" subs - IMO - just get a sealed box for ~$100 - $200 from a place like Malz then slap in two middle of the range subs.

I'm getting off topic now but hey hope this helps somebody..

AMPS: Get those damn door speakers AMPED people! Dont run them from the deck - This makes baby jesus cry. Best bang for you buck - Use a 4 channel amp for the rear two speakers and the front two splits.

SUB AMP: If you need one get a mono block amp and get one with some grunt! If you cant afford an expensive one just get a damn powerful one - even the cheap ones give out very little distortion these days (I say get a powerfull one because at 75% volume the distortion will be low) if you cant get a mono block get a 2 channel - car audio puts out 4 ohms per channel so if you have a 2 channel amp and you link up both channels - dropping it to 2 ohms you will get some crazy power going into that single 4 ohm sub. etc etc search the forum.

Sorry again for going off topic.

I should read all the posts before I hit reply.

- Happy you got the Alpine with three pre outs .

PM sent.

* FM is ok but when you’re spending so many $$$$ on a good system with amps and quality speakers you don’t really want to listen to your music when its transmitted over fm.

I'd bet good money that you would lose high end and low end freq and this would be obvious on a good system.

+ No music control from the deck = Arghhhh !!

I havent worked in the car audio industry for about 10 years but are you saying that pioneer is worse than sony/kenwwood/fusion and the rest of the unknown china brands??

IMO and I sold 1000's of systems back "in the day" is that any brand will have a deck that only last a year or two - these are called $100-$200 cd players. But a system with three pre outs - thats not a $100 system thats a higher end quality system.

Pioneer/Alpine/Clarion even Sony and Kenwood would use better quality parts on top end systems.

But as I said its been 10 years and things have changed..

My car had a double din $800 Pioneer unit in it with noise feedback into the speakers because the internal micro-fuse or whatever it is had buggered up, and I had been told by more than a few people that this was a common development with Pioneer units.
