I use to only run blaupunkt head units but have recently crossed over to pioneer head unit and love it it has great response and easy to use with iPhone connectivity and USB e.t.c all the crap they all have but I will admit I wanted an alpine CDe 103 I think it was but no problems with my pioneer unit as of yet ; )

Damn.. -1 for Pioneer then.

I'm looking into double din options at the moment so cheers for that heads up - might not be an issues with the latest models? but still..

Could be fixed now. I had a pioneer in my old ford which worked fine, then there was this one which was about a 2010ish model. First one was a 2007-2008 Model head unit.

I have a full Pioneer System in my car (second car it's been in) for over 4 years. Had the AVH-P3350BT Double Din for almost 2 years and can't fault it one bit. Never had any noise or interference or problems with any of it and there's nothing but crisp sound and heavy bass.

yep for sure. ta for your pointers alpha, had a chat to the folks there and sound pretty happy with what they'll do with the install. the amp sounds like a pretty sweet unit and the spec r woofer should grind out some decent bass. decided to go with all alpine gear to keep the theme going.
ALPHA likes this.

Hey guys,

I don't know much about car audio, but I a little over my stock MY01 system (I drive using headphones)

Anyway, I am keen to get a new single DIN system, no CD required, new speakers front and back, and probably a sub, nothing to overkill.

$1500 or so for an install of a better system, is that reasonable?

I would like aux input or bluetooth input perhaps with my Samsung S3.

Any recommendations? I love my music, but not out to set any audio comp records here, I don't want epic doof doof, but like good quality audio.

If you're keen on a nice sounding system, don't scrimp on the quality of your front speakers. They should be your first choice and 1/3 to 1/4 of your budget in my opinion. Fuck your passengers and forget rear speakers (how often do you carry passengers AND have music going with them in the car?). Also, they drag your sound stage backwards - you want it in font of you.

I'm biased towards Focal speakers because I own a set but they will shit all over your Type S/Type R offerings from Alpine and entry level Pioneer. Hertz made good value for money splits and are also worth an audition. I was going to get the Focals I suggest below but ended up going a couple of models up on those. At the end of the day everyone's ears are different so best to audition yourself.

Deck: $300-$400
eg. Alpine iDA-X303 media deck - $399
Front stage: $400-$500
eg. Focal 165VRS 6.5″splits - $549
4/5 channel Amp: $400 (Alpine, Hertz, Kicker, Pioneer, etc)
Subwoofer: $250 (Alpine, Focal, Pioneer, Hertz, JL Audio, Kicker, etc)
Pre-fab sub box: $100

You'd have to ask the stores what typical install charges are.
