There are certain things I personally would never purchase from ebay... head units are one of them. Along with cameras. They're grey imports and if anything goes wrong with them you're out of pocket for shipping to and fro to get it fixed or replaced. Something to consider. Also I'm big on helping keep local car audio stores alive.

Mobile Electronics AU | Articles | Affordable 6.5” Two Way Components Review >> I was going to get the Morels, but i ended up with Focal PS165s, which are good for the money.

Jason @ A-One Audio is helpful. He'll give you some good advice and an indication of price.

Can i suggest not listening to speakers outside your budget, better off not knowing what you're missing out on.

Also budget for dynamat.

LOL, this. I originally had a budget of $400 for front stage a couple of years ago. Ended up spending double.

edit: Probably not relevant for RichX, but if anyone is confident with buying stuff on reputation alone (eg. the Morel splits mentioned above), email Marty @ FHRX over east. He has built himself an extremely good reputation all around Australia and his customer service is impeccable. He does good prices and the price usually includes shipping to any state. I bought my sub from him and currently in the process of ordering something else. He goes to great lengths to help with advice and explanations via email.

In my opinion the best component to add to ANY car sound system is a JBL MS8.

I have the OEM McIntosh head unit into MS8 into Alpine 4.1 amp in OEM speakers. Exceptional sound in a 5.1 setup with the MS8 driving the rear speakers and centre channel. Alpine drive the front in an active setup and the sub.

This kind of discussion is openended as all speakers sound diffrent with diffrent amp processers etc.

im currently doing a massive build on a gc8 witch will be getting among other things
6.5 inch cross fire bmf drivers tang band 4 inch mids and scanspek tweeters all running fully active

in my view the arc audion 6.3 are way above the whole field in the passive component type

focals are good but only in a certain application, just rember its not how much they cost its how good they are installed.
my gc8 has type r,s installed and would shame a lot of set ups out there

no point in dropping 1300 bickies on a set of speakers and not spending the same on install

I have a pair of Soundstream RF60C components for my front stage... they are an amazing sounding speaker. They aren't the best quality set of speakers for $800 (i think I paid about that like 5 years ago) but from a 6.5" speaker it can take 180w RMS and it has a 3" voice coil.

I had four different Eclipse decks from Alberts years ago. They are the best head units imo but I fried so many on warranty and apparently this was a big problem for Eclipse and alot of places didn't want to sell them. (Eclipse CDA5435 I think?)

I have heard and it's been well documented about the problems with Pioneer decks. It is strongly advised not to even buy them because of this. Unfortunately I don't think Eclipse has their act together when it comes to build quality, but the sound quality of the head unit was great.

I bought a Sony DSX-S100 this time for about $250. It has a flip down face with a 'tune-tray' in which I can insert my Iphone/ipod/Usb and close the face back up. Takes a whole iphone! Single DIN too. People can say whatever they want about Sony, and the xplod stuff was crap back in the day, and it sorta still is a bit... but I'm really happy with my purchase for the price. Has 3x RCA outs and apparently a 120db SNR (which is why I bought it).

I have a Digital Designs S2 @ 2200w RMS+ running a DD9918 off that head unit and it's beautiful.

well im not sure if you know the whole pioneer range as the best unit around at the moment is hands down the pr99rs. im loling at your choice of sub sub amp and below average head unit.but each to there own

whats best for one person is not the best for the next but the pr99rs can not be beaten for out right audiophile sound better than a hxd2 etc

A couple of commas, a couple of full stops, not too much to ask is it?
