I pulled out my front wheel bearings before targa west last year and they had certainly got seriously hot and changed colour. It was just preventitive maintenance though.

I know the GTP racing boys used to have to change them between meets because they siezed but I think they were running on proper slicks and not even r specs.

IMHO you would never kill a set on the road (impacts aside) no matter how hard you drive it. If you are going to do tarmac rallies even I would not worry about it but simply program to change them every few years. It is not a particularly expensive exercise.

Having said that there is a mob (I think in Tassie) that will take your current hubs and machine them out to take the bigger bearings. Talk to Morgan AKA maddog as I am sure he has had his done.

Oh yeh, so they were still 5x100 PCD just bigger bearings.. hmmm all depends on the cost i suppose then..

Well the car will only do stuff like no limits, hill climbs and the like maybe once a month, nothing as intense as targa west or the like until i decide to go a cage...

Tino,

http://www.6gunracing.com

They are based in the US but they do 5x100 & 5x114.3 .. Maybe worth a looksie? They charge around 1k USD which is good value for brand new hub and spindle kits!

Quote:
6Gun Racing has also taken delivery of the first two sets of 05+ STi hubs machined to support a 5x100 bolt pattern. Over the past year, over 2 dozen motor sport enthusiasts, including national auto crossers, winning time trialists, and endurance racers have swapped to the cheaper, and stronger 05 STi hub using our '05+ STi 5x114.3 conversion kit. These dedicated racers have also enjoyed the large selection of cheap, and wide, 5x114.3 wheels available in the 5x114.3 bolt pattern (10" and 11" wide wheels can be sourced off the shelf from a variety of wheel manufacturers). Our customers have run up to 315 wide r-compound tires.

With the new '05 STi 5x100 hub conversion, wheels will still be limited to less than 9" wide but the cost of conversion will decrease a good bit. The kit will include the front '05 STi knuckles, 5x100 machined '05 STi front hubs, and the speed gear adapter collar needed keep the abs and center differential (on STi active center differential cars) functioning properly. The kit will work for both STi and WRXs. The only other modification needed will be to source front struts that fit the '05 STi front knuckle upright bolt pattern. Users will be able to retain their existing wheels and rotors while running the front hub. MSRP has not been set but will be less than the existing kit. The kits will be available by the end of the month.

Those are the guys that made the first roll centre kit before Whiteline etc and they had quite a few failures. I've not really heard many good things about their products

Yeh i found this kit muggz and was about to go down that path, however i found that Terry has a set and am getting it off of him, then mod either my coilovers to suit the flange or knuckle, will decide once i get them...

So next is rim choice...

Volk TE37s or Enkei RCT4s again....

Does anyone know if TE37s can be got in 18x 8.5/9 +22?? (as i may be able to scrape them under the gaurds with a smaller width i.e 8.5") and have the GTR face??

The other option go back to my Enkeis but in a slightly wider wheel and more aggressive offset +30 instead of +35 previous i.e 18x8.5 +30

I picked up myself some seconhand Rcomps

dunlop direzzas R compound 245x18 from MMS which have alot of tread 70-80% which i want to try out...

yeh pretty sure volk has that offset what stud pattern 5x114.3?
if your going brand new you can order that but if you want second hand
you will have to hunt around to find that offset i know 18x9.5 x22 comes up all the time
but 8.5/9 always comes up stagged with that offset
