Just did a quick measure of the pistons with a tape measure so crude measurements (cbf getting out the veniers)

4 Pot: 2x 40mm diameter= 80mm worth of piston force spread out over pad
6pot: 3x30mm diameter = 90mm worth of piston force spread out over pad

sorry, but this is not how it works...

you need to work on the piston area.

area of a circle = pi x r squared

4 pot 3.14159 (pi) x 20x20 (radius squared) =1256.636 square mm of area

there are 4 pistons so total piston area = 1256.636 x 4 = 5026.544

6 pot 3.14159 (pi) x 15x15 (radius squared) =706.857 square mm of area

there are 6 pistons so total piston area = 706.857 x 6 = 4241.146

so in fact the 6 pot calipers have less total piston area.

the good news is that as the pistons are spread out more you will get less pad flex (bending) and because there is less piston displacement you will not need use as much pedal travel.

this is based on the piston diameters that you have provide tino.

Yes I know how to calculate area from a circle Geoff. Wasnt trying to just stating the diameter of the piston sizes for either the 6 pots or 4pots.

The biggest plus with the 6pots is that the pads are so much larger and therefore there is alot more contact with the rotor when brakes are depressed. The area is also spread out over the pad providing a better brake feel.

I wasn't having a go at what you were saying, I was just pointing out the maths/physics of it.

chill dude!

Geoff nor was I..

Its an interesting thought though, yes the 4pots have more overall area but the 6pots have more contact linear area i.e 80mm vs 90mm so this would produce better/more even brake clamp??

Tino, great to see the brakes but the 4 pots were overpowering the shit rubber that you had on there on the track day so imho you wont see much improvement until you put on some decent rubber.

The pedal feel might be better but it wont pull you up any faster.
