Try and get an MY02...they are definitely much harder to find than MY01s though, as I've found most people hang onto their 02s.

The gear ratios are a big deal. Believe it or not, the MY02 is seconds quicker from 80-120 than an MY01....Subaru stats even claim the stock MY02 is quicker from 80-120 than a stock MY99!

Also, the "key" to waking up MY01/02's (in stock or mildly modded form) is replacing that god-damn catted up-pipe. On a stock bug eye, changing the up-pipe gives it a fair kick in the guts. Its what Subaru should have done from the factory to make up for the weight gain over the GC8s.

P.S. MY02 doesn't have EBD, that was introduced on MY03 onwards

you could get cheap 2nd hand standards(around $50) pull them apart and spray internals matt black. think theres a "how to" thread somewhere.
