MY02 - Yes the good Bug Eye with better ratios AND a stronger gearbox!!!

Sigh ....I can see it now.....

Tune plus Heavy duty clutch in MY01 then Mech Q - 'My gearbox just broke help!!!!"

Take it easy on that gearbox ok!!!!

Gearbox isn't stronger.. just has longer ratios..

In saying that - my MY01 with JUST an exhaust did consecutive 14.00's down the quarter..

I know many guys inc [wrx wrc] that are using 01 boxes in the gc8s with much success..

02 was a more refined version of the 01 - shorter ratio box - hidden radio antenna, different cd player and i think ext temp gauge?

Adz - ratios are actually shorter in MY02.

I disagree with you there - the geartooth width is greater in the WRX 02+ gearboxes. Combined with the 4.444 ratios it has been proven to be a stronger combo.

There have not been a lot of broken WRX 02+ boxes either on here or Rexnet for those running moderate power and sensible clutches. Street driven. No drags and savage launches.
Notice I said moderate and sensible.

Spec4, Seriously if I was you - its better to be a bit patient and really try and get a MY02 - the gearbox DOES make a difference. We are not just making up this for the fun of it. The MY01 is a bit of a lame dog by comparison.

Another point that hass not been mentioned is VERSO. I recall some members have had trouble getting their ECU reflashed in their MY01 WRX's. This is another important point to consider as its a very good bang for ya buck upgrade.

Those two points alone would make me hunt a bit harder for a MY02!!!

Mods yes as above - but no need for injectors as MY02 already has 440cc which will be good for close to 200KW ATW.

Search for "Dylan Spec" on here for a cheap china spec exhaust made locally.

Walbro from Vendor Zanitek on Rexnet for fuel pump.

Plus any of the VF30+ turbos are good for great midrange punch on an EJ205 MY02 engine. VF35 for minimal lag.
