Yeah, it could be something totally unrelated, changing the AFM seemed to make things worse though, so it appears it's coming from this area, and is consistent as to what happens when an AFM becomes fouled as per other people's comments.

You are right though, and hopefully that's not the case - As the ECU has reported no errors anywhere else and trying to track it down would be difficult. I'm confident we have covered all bases and this is the trouble spot. Is there anything else in your opion which could cause this problem other than what has been mentioned?

Checked your connections to the AFM?
Could be a dodgy plug/connection.

Could be a slow acting Throttle Position Sensor? I have this problem. When i put my foot down it has a slight hesitation. Heard it can be common problem.

Gonna see how it goes over the next few weeks. If the problem comes back/gets worse it goes back in. I remember Eric from these forums had a similar issue with his car which turned out to be the AFM as well, but it was getting wet.

Subarus and oil type filters just don't go together Rich......ditch that K&N POS and go with an Apexi filter....My bet's on the AFM being stuffed....the one you tried that made it worse, was it a newy?

Rich, the problem i had was my dry pod was taking in water from a leaking duct above the pod. I wasnt even sure if it was the afm or not, so i went to clean it and it was worse. Seems that contact cleaner sure cleaned it....into an early retirement. So i bought a new one, plugged the vent up best i could and she went alright
