Sorry, a GX 2 door, or a STI 2 door. They had GX/LX 2 doors as well

If you intend repairing it, I believe all you need to retain is the original floorpan and firewall. Ask Tom (Pimpreza) about his hatch. His is an ADM 94 WRX hatch, with a 97 STI hatch body from the front pillars back. All passed by DPI so it is do-able.

factoring in the cost of the two cars (the donor and the shell) the labour to do the transplant and the miscellaneous items involved, you may actually be better off just buying a 2door sti that has been Aus delivered.

in the end, you are still looking at a 'bista', which will never be a real sti (because it is not from the factory).

just thinking about it realistcally.

I was going to do the whole V6 sti conversion on mine, but then it will never be an STI, nor will it be a genuine club spec evo4. tend to find that 'bitsa' cars have poor resale and people tend to steer away from them as they hold too many unkowns.

just a thought though.

if you go ahead with this project, best of luck mate.

I doubt the DPI would pass any 2 door joined up to a 4 door front shell.

You should not try and compare the Subaru situation with other brands, since it is quite different.
exactly what i was going to say. it would be cool if it were possible to register it...but it isn't so unless you only intent driving it as a track car or want to take your chances driving it around the streets on b-reg it seems like a bit of a waste of effort
and by having the front of a 4 door on the shell of the 2 door...would that not mean that there would be a 4 door VIN number on a 2 door car???

i stuffed that up i think, the front end of the 2 door is perfect, so the rear end would be replaced by a 2 door jap car.. which has no identification??? therefore it is somewhat like buying a replacement panels of a wrecked car to fix your car up!

b-reg, or re-shelling an australian chassis are about your only options, i beleive the 'chassis' repair loopholes are closing up, its a touchy subject, especially when you approach the DPI. even b-reg is becoming more difficult.

does it then depend on whether the wrecked 2 door is still licenced, or even if it can be licenced again if it has been written off. would that be a re-birth?
