Again, dissappointing mate, I dont know all the details but it always sucks when you are constantly forking out $$$ and really don't seem to be getting what you pay for.
I have my fingers crossed as I at a similar stage of modding right now.

Unfortunate result, However thats the gamble you take with modding a car.
Plain and simple! As stated before, taking things on pure blind trust is pretty bad in the real state of things. However having a third party testing the compression results was a good idea to help the feuding workshops in question. So... faced with an engine rebuild, i guess the upside is that you will be able to finally chuck some new pistons and rings in and get it over and done with first time round. (even tho its a new added cost ) |

Thanks for the replies guys..
As both ramon and pete have said, i shouldnt have been so naieve in this whole process, but i never would have thought that a brand NEW engine would be assembled in such a manner. The seller was also in the same position as myself and didnt believe that those tests needed to be conducted as the engine was brand new. When the engine was in his car, he was also told the reasoning for not making power was due to a 'flow' restriction. This is one of the reasons i have posted on here, to show others that even what u think may be in perfect condition a simple test would remove all the heartache and money that has been lost in this exercise. I purposely didnt list the names of people or companies involved as those that know wot happened know those involved. Secondly i didnt want to turn this into, my workshop is better than urs thread. |

Chris, i hope that this is the case but its hard to put it down to incorrect assembley without pulling the engine apart. |

my condolences on your engine tino RIP 2.5ltr
it is my believe that's once you open up a subaru engine, the magic is gone. there is just something about it you can't open it up and put it back again exactly the way as it was. therefore for my 2.5ltr upgrade, it would be a whole engine swap rather than a half cut. i assume that something in the 2.0ltr half would be restricting the 2.5ltr half once you put them together. that's just opinion, but as pete said.........mod at your own risk! |

Sorry to hear dude.
Out of interest did the original engine builder carry out all the work on the engine and ancillaries ie tuning? last I heard about this engine there is a 3rd workshop who carried out work in the engine bay. I am not pointing fingers or championing anyone either and I think the whole situation is shit for you and you should be entitled to some recompense but who the hell are you supposed to get it from??? The person who built it?? The person who tuned it at any stage??? the person who did work on the engine prior to it's sale other than the engine builder??? the person who assembled your engine after you purchased it??? the last tuner who touched it??? Unfortunately this is the risk everyone takes when buying second hand from ANYONE. And it would to a point advocate getting everything done at the one place so the one workshop can be held responsible. Bite the bullet and pull the engine out so you may be able to have some satisfaction as to what is really wrong with it.
