Factoring in that this key has already been cut to fit another lock, wouldnt altering it mean you would essentially be using a warn down key in the barrel, and to some extent coding the locks to be universal (if you get what I mean, dont think ive got my point across right, but the thought's there :P)

Try Diamond lock & key before going to a dealer.
They can usually do transponder keys for around $150...In saying that I don't know if they can do the Subaru ones, but I have used them for various other makes.

Sounds like Diamond Locks are the go.
Just got the house locks changed. $400 later. The GF wanted them done straight away. I wanted to sit here with the Kookaburra waiting for them to pop the key in the lock...

Ok, so i found my spare set of keys for my MY00 and its got a little remote pad with subaru written on it, looks pretty much like the head of the key, but with no actually key part on it.
Ive never ever used it, what's it for? And can it be used with my current problem? Also there is a little black tag, and all it has written on it is "please retain this code tag" Is that a scanable type tag is it?

Pull the door lining off, try and pop out the key barrel, u will find a 4 digit number code, take it too any key shop and get one cut..

More keen to get new locks as the pricks still have a key that can open/start it.

Probably much cheaper to just have yours re pinned @ $25 ea and keys made to match, not really that hard to get them out and if you can do it yourself or get a mate to help you'll save at least a couple of hundred on just labour..............even the ignition barrel isn't that bad.

Scary, but it took less than 30 seconds to break into it...
I can hotwire it, but like google says, i can only get it to run for 3 seconds til the factory immobiliser kills it. So what i need is someone with an ODB tool that can recode a key FOB to the car... Once a new key is matched to the car, all old codes are wiped. Which solves all my problems, deadshit's key no longer works and i can use my MY00 keys in it. Anyone got the device, software and leads? Diamond's said its not as easy as repinning and gave me a quote for 2 new keys and all locks to match for $1100.
