Default Right engine oil???

Hey guys not to sure as to what engine oil to buy. I read a few other posts and everybody is saying different ones.
Will penrite full synthetic 10W - 40 do me any good?
Or should I go with a semi synthetic

I've been looking into this myself. The handbook says hot & dusty conditions = 10W-40 or extremes like desert/very high temps = 10W 50, 20W 40 or 20W 50.

Also says 5W-30 is not recommended for sustained high speed driving, which I guess applies to cruising outback WA.

My car is an MY99 with 95k on the clock. I don't care about fuel economy or maximising power, just engine protection, so I reckon 10w 40 semi-synth will do me. I've had two people recommend Mobil, and one of them said it's best not to use oils with special additives. (Magnatec?)

I know there are dozens of threads on oil along with hundreds of opinions, but it's sometimes hard to separate keen tuners & modders from the everyday drivers.

I'm looking at doing my oil & filter in the next couple of weeks, so I'm definitely interested in your findings.

Like many members here I do my own 5000 km intermittent lube job, I buy everything I need from the Subaru service centre in Ozzy park. 5L of Subaru synthetic oil (Castrol I believe) a can of upper engine cleaner and an oil filter. Comes to about $70 which, if I recall correctly is cheaper than normal retail and it's the good stuff.

I would say, with 100klm plus use a 10w40 viscosity, fully synthetic

Subaru used Mobil one synthetic in my MY99. On my first change i put motul in.

MOTUL is very good and for everyday driving you can get the turbolight for around 60 dollars retail

^^^ Turbolight is semi synthetic
My advice, dont use full synthetic
for street use, use a 10w40 semi synthetic
Mobil Super 2000 X2 is my choice
its a well proven oil in Subaru engines and is well priced compared to other oils

any flavour/brand 10w40.

this is australia, not europe/japan/northern usa where it is on average cooler then perth.

its all about viscosity, use the thicker oils.
