I had this happen to me too, a few times. I took it to Subaru and it never did it again... They probably cut the wires or something All in all, the Brant is awesome for when (if) you leave your car keys lying around and some dickhead mate tries to take it for a spin without you knowing it. Apart from that, fuck it off. It is shit. |

With an Autowatch 555 you can have an anti hi-jack feature fitted so if someone does manage to get the keys your vehicle will cut out after a certain period of time if the anti hi-jack button has been pressed. The anti hi-jack button is generally concealed so only you know where to press.

Fact- The Brant cannot lock the steering. Fact- The Brant cannot cause the brakes to disappear. At worst, the steering would become heavier after the engine cut out, but would remin quite drivable still. And the brakes would be unassisted but still be just as effective with more pedal effort. |

Doug,
the car cut out, causing the ignition to be off, which meant the steering locked up and the master cylinder wasn't getting fluid... it was a member on here, and that is the story I got told... which is the same as any car if it cut out / was turned off whilst driving, so I agreed and moved on... |

The steering can only lock if the key is removed. Cutting ignition power only stops the engine it cannot lock the column. A manual transmission car will still have power steering assistance until it the car stops moving unless the driver pushes the clutch in. Even worst case the steering reverts to manual steer anyway which just needs more muscle. Car steering and brakes have various failsafes to stop catastrphic failures.
Likewise, cutting the engine while driving will only eliminate vacuum in the brake booster, the master cylinder is still directly connected to the pedal, it's failsafe. The driver just has to push a bit harder. I can understand that people like to embellish the story of their "near death" experience when the car cuts out, but in reality they just need to harden up and get on with the job of driving the car as best they can in an emergency instead of panicking. |

I have had some problems with my brant, but I agree with Nauli.
Its funny some people even at Subaru do like it and some that don't. As far as i understand with the Brant system your car is hard to steel. Subaru have changed the key pad module and i have had no problems. Ps get to know the system & talk to Subaru. Regards Steve |

I found the problem is not only the brant system but the quality of the install, which was carried out by different companies nation wide.
Whilst technicians were removing the brant system from my '06 WRX (car randomly cut out for a month) they showed me just how dodgy the original install was. Twist and tape joining, heavy guage wires that splice into light guage, lots of dodgy connections, it was an incredible mess! I feel safer knowing that there isnt one "brant" thing left in my car. Wouldnt mind an alternative keypad system though. |
