Law regarding fire Extinguishers in your vehcile
Hey guys, was looking into buying a fire extinguisher for my car but are there any regulations on what extinguisher you can have?

Go to Bunnings, there are extinguishers specifically for Automotive applications. If you are intending to track the car there are rules & regs regarding the brackets used to mount them (need to be metal with metal release straps, and within reach of the driver whilst buckled in, and tagged). The ones at Bunnings are CAMS approved and relatively cheap by comparison.
I'm guessing you know there are different types of extinguishers for different types of fires, dry powder is what you want for Automotive.

Talk to Maximum Motorsport...they can supply & fit an approved extinguisher with mounting bracket to fit on the front passenger side floor.

i've had one in every car i've owned ( 1kg ), one car even went over the pits with one installed and it wasn't questioned. in saying that, i've only ever had ones that have the metal strap/bracket ( plastic's too easily broken and not motorsport approved ) and they have been the ABE powder type that cover most/all types of fire.

You'll still need to take it around the corner to Protector fire services to be tagged as they don't do tagging.

I would like one for those pesky window washers at traffic lights.

...and LOL when you roll up at a CAMS event with your DIY mounting bracket and you don't pass scrutineering because it isn't appropriately fixed....this happens quite a bit...

Where are these CAMS fire extinguishers at Bunnings?
Every time I've been in they just seem to have kitchen ones.
