my question is, are the people flogging cars only selling them on pwrx? Because to be perfectly honest, I would have though most of the members here already have a Subaru. To be truly effective you need to get it everywhere: sunday times, west australian, quokka, carsales, autotrader, etc. When I sold my last Liberty, the couple buying it saw it in the Sunday times: they didn't even know the West had a car sales section.

Unfortunately peoples expectations when valuing anything are usually overinflated ( Just wait until the housing bubble bursts ).

Up until mid naughties there weren't a lot of WRX/STi's available on the second hand market so the prices held up fairly well. Compare than to now were there are a heap them available and people basing expectations on what they were going for in a tight market a few years ago.

My experience with the piggy was it owed me close to 70K after purchase and mods including Stereo & Nav. I was offered and took $30K for a trade. 5 Years old, 68K km 42% resale ( since mods are worth 2/5th of f&*k all its really 52% of original purchase price ). The residual on the lease was only 45% after 3 years. Personally I think thats pretty dam good for any car. Never buy a dunnydoor if you disagree with me.

Since I sold in November there have been a heap of STi's come up asking considerably more ( some starting close to 70% of purchase price ) with a lot more cars around to compete against. Not surprising they aren't flying out the door.

It is always worth keeping an eye on what the dealers have in their yards. If there is nothing good it's worth dropping by and asking for an offer. You would be surprised how well you might do if they need an attention getter on the lot.

The MY98 I had I sold to City Subaru for 18k. 7 Years old with 83K km 45% of original purchase price.

You should get more on a private sale than a trade or sale to a dealer but you will pay for advertising, it will likely take a while and the value is dropping every extra month you have it.

Kind of arrogant of me to quote myself but what the hell.

Turns out I am going to buy MCL's wrx after all.

Finance co is sending me the papers tomorrow for signing.

Ahhhh both kind of. MCL's throwing in a bunch of stuff including the wingless boot.
Yeah he's done me a sweet deal. The car itself is a thing of beauty, he's looked after it real well. Looks nicer than in the photos, which I didn't expect.

I olve it when you put up an ad CLEARLY stating that it is up for a mate and you still get PM's directed to you asking for a call.

Evn better when the car is advertised at $x and some dipstick PM's me (not the owner) Hey I have $7k less sitting here what do you think of that??
