Would have some potential but would need major suspension revisions or would likely bounce off the road round the first bumpy corner into the bush.

Allegedly the EM porka GT3 that trounced the field at THC had a fair swag of cup car parts on it......or a few road car parts added back to a cup car...whichever way you want to look at it

Re 6 speed, you can run whatever the car had standard. So if your car happened to come out with a 6 speed sequential, happy days. Otherwise its however many forward gears stock, plus whatever shifting mechanism stock.

IMHO the streetcar class is one of the best entry level bumper to bumper classes. Wide variety of cars are acceptable. Need the approriate setup (complied cage, harness, window net, kill switch etc) and the relevant CAMS license. They try to level the field with weight and tyre size restrictions rather than more expensive turbo restrictors etc usd in IPRA....well the restrictors arent expensive, but making a turbo engine make power with one is.

Street Car Racing Association

Nice call on the Porka Joe. Would love to race one but they are far too spendy to be competitive and repair if they go bang. Cant buy a full roller porka for $1000 or a used engine for $1200 Most of the classic porkas are epic wolves in sheeps clothing. 200k plus cars.

Stew Liddle looked at running a cup car because they are cheap 2nd hand (relatively) and parts are pretty easy to get. I think it would be a great idea to have more cup cars running around. As Blaise says you would need some decent suspension but there are plenty of 997 cup cars in auto action for circa $100k. No drivers aids and more in the spirit of the event IMHO.

Stew asked octagon and was told not to bother. Then when I was walking through the silverdome here is a 996 with the airjack jack still sticking out of the bonnet. Had a closer look and it is a full cup car, no question. Plastic windows, air jacks still installed etc. Stew asked the guy if it was a cup car and flat out the guy said "none of your business". IMHO that was all the confirmation we needed! It broke down somewhere on the last day or limped into Hobart but it was a young bloke driving with his old man. I reckon they could have their own class as it would really depend on how good the driver was as opposed to the car. There is only so much you can cheat when it is N/A.

Hearing ya Brendon,

a cup class would be a good thing. Although I think the cheap part is buying one. Keeping it going is the spendy bit. 40k engine rebuilds allegedly?

You know the deal at TT. Run pretty much anything you want, just dont win or finish in front of people who care. It seems people get one crack at bending the rules and then if it ruffles feathers they are asked not to come back. So you'd be sweet running a cup car and just plodding along, but if you are at the pointy end of a class I imagine you will get grief.

Any engine rebuild for Summers would surely have included a certain amount of panel work aswell.

There was a mx-5 there this year running a rotary. Sounded awesome and was nowhere in the results so as Blaise says he was good to go.

I reckon you wouldn't ask if you could run a wrc car. Just rock up and have a big go in one. IF you could drive, and put it at the front of the field i reckon Whitey would be the first one to shake your hand. Regardless of what car they are in the leading 5 were in a class of their own until they crashed / blew up. My top 5 would be Close, White, Quinn, Herridge and Reeves. Daylight to Jimmy and then daylight to everybody else.

Glenney didnt run (because he doesnt have a civil drivers license) and vandenberg decided to play in showroom.... I think he still would have been 3rd outright but he was nowhere near the pace of Reeves when they were in the same car.
