Default Maxing out TD04

So im sure this topic has been flogged a million times, iv been doing a bit of research on getting better preformance out of a 2.5 wrx and iv decided i want to keep the TD04 since most subaru enthusiast say the 2.5 cant handle a significant turbo upgrade like a TD05 20g, so i thought about doing as many supporting mods possible to maximize the TD04 abilities. I know its how deep are your pockets sort of thing when making a fast car, atm im just talking bolt ons that a 2.5 can handle?

Just as a side note i am planing on buying a sti in a few yrs but for now do what i can with a EJ255

Do bigger headers, Intercoolers etc do anything for a TD04?

How much power are you chasing from the td04?
Seems like a pointless exercise to spend all the money on the supporting mods, tune etc and at the very very least no throw a bit of an upgraded turbo on? Just a vf52 even?

Headers, intercooler, exhaust and tune will net big early torque. But run out of puff early. When you do your research look up what Shane (Monkeee) did with his 2.5 and td04 before his upgrade

Fair question, i figured that come the day i buy an sti i could swap the better after market parts over to the sti and cut the cost of buying a another turbo for the wrx that wont be a great upgrade anyway

Read the figures from the td04 on the first post here.

Lots of torque, no killer wasps and runs out of steam at 4000rpm

Check out this article which takes opinions on wrx engines from a few respected tuners. It may sway your priorities on mods and your expectations on power. Interesting either way...

Post 1181 on the above thread.

Vf52 and supporting mods dyno chart. Big difference is that I assume you have a manual? The above dyno is with a slush box auto, restricting the power big time!

A much bigger upgrade going to the newer wrx turbo than you might have though? Shouldn't be that expensive either?

Just swap your EJ out for a 4G63.

300 whp: To obtain this horsepower level, the EJ motor only requires an upgraded intercooler, larger sized fuel injectors, and a retune of the ECU-no internal engine modifications are required.

That doesnt sound right to me

Yeah what would Quirt Crawford of Crawford Performance know. It's not like Crawford Performance:

"specializes in designing, building, and campaigning high-performance vehicles in various racing motorsports including but not limited to time-attack, drift, rally, and endurance. Crawford is recognized around the world for its successful customization of the Subaru Impreza STi, including building the infamous Gymkhana 1 and 2 cars driven by Ken Block."

or anything. He's probably mistaken.
