I reckon 98 octane is the least of your worries if you're just cruising - Invest in some front-end protection, eg: car-bra, to avoid the complete annihilation that will be the front of your car from all the bugs and shit you get.

based on how uncomfortable my wrx is for long journeys - i would seriously consider just hiring a car and leaving the wrx at home if the price was right for a long up north round trip.

summer time and country roads @ 110, the amount of bugs is insane.
