Few snaps from today. Dicked arounding fitting a Cusco brake cylinder brace today. I'm in 2 minds about the kit, the fit on the strut tower was perfect but the screw you wind out to obviously amke it fit different model cars is on a crazy angle. I ended up sticking a washer inbetween cause the nut was trying to dig a hole through my master cylinder

here you can see where it makes contact with the washer.. bit black. not to mention the dirty fillet weld on the angle.

The other thing I did to my car was make what i like to call "frankenmanifold" where I constructed a drive by cable inlet manifold to fit. here we are in the process of pulling a bunch of different manifolds to pieces, 01 WRX, Spec C, 05 USDM STI and 06 JDM Legacy. In the end I used the 01 WRX inlet manifold sitting on top of the Legacy TGV deleted with the STI side feed injectors and fuel rails. Frankenmanifold!

pulling apart the USDM STI manifold

Underneath... getting cheap with the red spray paint these days?

Legacy TGV deleted with the STI rails and yellow tops

From left 01 WRX (non TGV top feed, injector venturi) Spec C (non TGV top feed) Legacy (non TGV side feed)

The STI fuel rails bolted onto the WRX manifold. As these fuel rails are off a DBW model, the fuel pressure reg is actually mounted underneath and gets it vac/boost from a nipple which is conveniently right where the accelerator cable mounts. Before:

Took too it with a hacksaw and then cleaned it up with a file. much neater and i can run the boost line from another nipple. after:

Frankenmanifold fitted in place. with a little bit of dicking around.

Sexy little rubber gaskets as fitted OEM to the legacy motor

Spec C TGV deletes: the perfect redbull coaster

And who can tell me what type of turbo this is ? ...

PS, turns out I never had a VF38 :P the 4AT came with the VF38, the 5MT came with the TD04HLA... I've been hoodwinked! all this time!

I have the borrowed TD04 off Kato, plan to see if the front housing will fit, if so it should bolt up to a normal TMIC and off i go... 1.5 bar boost at 1300rpm?

Whats the orignal plastic manifold look like inside ? restrictive ?

Had my EJ20Y(MY05 AUDM Lib) tuned...made 250hpatw, turns out the valvetrain appears soft...wanted to valve bounce with 1.4bar ~5Krpm....cams piss weak/small....very smooth but !

I was hoping for more power from a VF36 C spec headers etc, seems to be a restriction somewhere apart from the butter soft valvetrain.

Maybe stick some cams and springs in yours now while its possibly easier....

Wheres your plastic manifold now Matt ? can I get a look at it ....
What engine designation is yours ? what do the ports in the heads look like ? decent ?

Cheers

the plastic manifold looks pretty sweet: way, way smoother than the cast metal ones, plus they have the Spec C shaped TGV deletes. My motor is designated an EJ20Y so it looks like i'll have the same issues. I definately want cams & springs but am waiting for someone to release quad AVCS cams, i don't see the point in going backwards to the dual avcs.

The yanks are claiming their legacys are happy at 1.5bar.. but who knows? guess the dfference in turbo size plays a part

Placcy manifold is down with the car, hanging onto it just in case i want to try it with a reverse manifold or something at another stage. I'll bring it back up to perth next time i go down. as for the ports.. heres some pics

Are the yanks talking about 2.0`s or 2.5`s ?

I was looking on legacygt.com last night as well as dynotimes.com(I think that was it) but anyway they are all getting something like 190whp std and to get 250whp and 250ftlbs(340Nm like what I got) they are going to stage 2(tune intake exhaust) with a VF40 on 2.5`s.... they reckon they piss along with 250whp, maybe my result wasn`t so bad...

Are the yanks 2.5 GT`s dual AVCS....because they do talk about cosworth and other cams available for their BL/BP Legacy`s.

Yes I would like to get a look at the placky manifold if you could bring it up, I`m thinking maybe the design of the remote TB and plenum is a bit sus maybe !?

Hard to tell from the pic but do you think the ports look small ish ? have you seen what STI heads look like, how do they compare ?

Cheers

Justin
