Default Location, Location.

If you want a higher premium, live in Melbourne. We've got it good here in Perth.

I just got around to advising Shannons of my WRX now located in Parkwood, WA, from it's previous location (on the same policy) in a Melbourne outer suburb. Resulted in a REDUCTION of $660 per year in the premium!!!!

Not that it was ridiculously high before, that now gives me a total premium (for 2 cars) of less than $1100, so I guess my age is going for me here.

Cheers.

Age: 31
Insurer: SGIO
Car: MY11 STI
Agreed Value: Market Value
Cost: $ 2013.40
Excess: $ 450.00
Full comprehensive (including Hire Car and Glass cover)

Ok, this was prior to getting my renewal notice.

Cost (From Jan 1st 2014) $ 2424.25 (This is a $410.84/Year increase!)

Called AMI and got the same policy (also listed mods and got unlimited free hire car vs 14 days free) for $1893.00/year.

Called SGIO to let them know they are too expensive, was told "sorry nothing I can do".. so told the guy to close my account.. bunch of dicks.

Don't SGIO bang on about beating quotes by 10%?

So their business model is to drum up new clients, yet screw over those already with them? Sounds like a great way to lose future business

Sounds like they get people in the door by offering best price, then they jack it up a year later and hope you are none the wiser or too lazy to follow up.

Had the exact same dramas with SGIO! I had 3 policies with them. Loyal customer for years. Needed to renew but got some other quotes. They where lower but sgio didnt care. I closed all my accounts with them. They are mongrels!!

Its the same for a lot of companies, once they get your money the good customer service tends to disappear. For all the people who move insurers they will probably get twice that joining for that first year discounted price.

Age: 27
Insurer: SGIO
Car: MY05 STI
Agreed Value: Agreed $32K (though going to drop this now I don't have finance on the car)
Cost: $1689.54
Excess: $550.00
Full comprehensive (including Glass cover)

Was going to get a quote from RAC (who normally seem the cheapest) and see if SGIO will match it as I have two other policies with them, and have been with them since I got my first car 10 years ago, but from the sounds of it above, looks like they won't be budging....so may close all of my accounts with them as well if they are going to be dicks about it. Will follow up in the next few days and let you know, but I have a feeling I'll get the same treatment as those above me

Yep you will. Just to screw them though do this. Close all accounts. get money back. Then reopen new accounts with the 10% better price. Mind you I think they charge a liitle to break contract so might only be worth not opening the new one and doing that.

If they are going to treat me like that I might just go to RAC, my parents have been with RAC for years and haven't had any issues when it comes to claims etc, so if SGIO are going to be cunts about it, screw em lol

I had the same deal with SGIO, renewal went up by something around $700 over the previous year and they just said the 10% price beat doesn't apply for renewals, only new policies and were cunts about
