Was wondering if any of you guys had some feedback on letting your parents sign for your car and them insuring it to save some cash. Anyone know of any downsides etc?

Parents naming you as a designated driver of course.

Did this when i was younger. Saves coin, negatives=
You don't start earning your own no claims bonus.
You more often then not cost your parents theirs
My insurance hasn't really changed since i was 17 and that's going from corolla to V6 sedan to 4B to heavily modified 4B to wrx. All been around 1200 and im 23 now.

Thank you for your insight. Mine was just costing me way to much being a V8 and all, was around $2,300 with $600 excess, no crash history, but looking at an 03 wrx this week, so hopefully it should drop down with that.

Cheers.

I pay a higher excess to avoid the premium.

20 years of age now, I did ring around, after seeing "youi" advertised on TV I thought I'd give them a call, not realising they were based in the Eastern states and the laws are quite different there mind you. I broke their record of highest quote at $11,750 for a year.

I respectively replied with a "No thank-you"

Ended up going with RAC, they offered probably the best price + premium/excess I could find for someone my age with my car.

I am a fan of RAC. I haven't yet found a national insurer who is able to compete. You could take SGio up on their offer to beat anyone else by 10%. They are normally 30% higher than RAC to start with though.

Thanks man, I didn't know they had that offer, I'll look into this when the time comes, as for now I'll stick with RAC, no real point changing if I'm looking to change vehicle soon.

I found RAC a pain to even get a quote with because they asked for a power figure for my car. I said do you want the wheel/hub number, or the inflated flywheel figure that car manufacturers use in their advertising? He said "whatever". Spent ten minutes on hold while he spoke to the underwriters. Long story short, I managed to get my renewal with SGIO down to $950 from over $1300. Can't wait to see next renewal...

I had the same thing with RAC - over a fucking axle back... I tried to explain it's probably no different or 0.000001 of a kw, but they still wanted it dyno'd.

I'd love to see them put a wreck on a dyno to try and reject your claim
