With the weather that's 'suppose' to come through tonight I have a question if anyone works in insurance. I only just purchased the GC8 an literally insured it yesterday, upon completion I noticed there is a '28 day cooking off period'. Does this mean if my car gets hit today, I'm not covered? Or just I have that long to cancel contract.
If no one on here is able to help I will just reluctantly call up an sit on hold for a hour or so.
Thanks

The 28 day "cooling off" period is a safeguard whereby you can get out of the contract if you so desire. For all intents and purposes, the insurance company and yourself have an agreement unless you decide otherwise (usually in writing) within the cooling off period.

Thanks for the clarification.

yeah - as huggy said, that is to protect you - usually, you ring up for cover, they go through a policy with you, then you accept verbally over the phone, set up banking details and then your coverage starts immediately, so you could drive the car home from the car yard or wherever. Then they would usually forward you a copy of the PDS via mail, which gives you an oppertunity to read all the fine print. Once you have done this, you can make a decision to change the policy if it is not right for you, or say nothing, and carry on, which is what most people do, then when it comes time to actually claim, they work out that the event is not covered in the PDS, or the item is not covered, then have a cry at the insurance company for not telling them, when it's clearly, all there in writing...

I have a wife who is an insurance consultant... this is the way 80+% of claims go

I don't it all online, payed straight away via c.card an they sent me a PDS via email.
RAC states; insurance will not be payed if,
(o) Caused by storm, flood or bushfire within the first 48 hours after the start of the Policy, unless:
• You purchased your vehicle immediately before You took out the Policy, or
• Our Policy commenced immediately after another Policy covering the same risk expired, without a break in cover.

Hopefully I'll be fine only purchasing a week ago, can't be sure without speaking to them though. I'm going to call up to be safe.

I would also check that your new policy is going to cover you for this storm; insurance taken after a severe weather warning may not cover damage from said severe weather...

Edit: just read your last post

I just renewed my insurance today!
Last year my car was stock (not that it has much now though) so I had the lube ready! Plus I moved from Carlisle to Canning Vale!
And most of you are aware of my driving history (accidents and license loss)
Verdict:
CVale came in cheaper lol
inc all my mods and the proposed new turbo it came in an extra few hundred so instead I increased the value of the car (to cover my mods) and have my mods listed as a note on my file (so they don't reject a claim because my car has mods they weren't aware of) this was all approved by the Supervisor etc at AAMI and my new premium is $846 full comp!!! Love it!!!
