Slashed $7000+ worth of value off a 12 month old car, increased my premium by $150+ (no claims made) and to have it insured at the agreed value I'm expected to pay $1486 (difference of $280 from last year).

I had to ask them to clarify some information about finance owing on the vehicle and the age related excess it turns out that what I was told last year when I agreed to the policy was bullshit.

Craig, let me know how you go with RAC, my online quote came back just over $2k with them last week.

SGIO is owned by CGU, so just ring them direct. Same with HBF General Insurance as of next month. Definately shop around. RAC have always been good to me, but I am currently with the wife's company as she gets staff discount.

I think AAMI rate pretty highly amongst the insurance companies for price and policy details. In the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Don't just go the cheapest option, you want to get great coverage too

I must have missed that memo, cheers. I have contents insurance with CGU through my broker so I may give him a call and see what he can do.

Tony, my online quotes with RAC:

Insured for $35,800 (their maximum agreed value) with a $450 excess = $980.59
0 excess = $1188.20 (around what I paid last year with SGIO, with a $300 excess).

Those amounts include a 7% (silver) member discount, and a further $35 discount for purchasing online.

FAR cheaper than SGIO.

edit: over $1500 to insure the car for market value ($31,200) with AAMI
I guess they're all trying to claw their way back from the hail storm payouts. Prepare for sphincter loosening.

Recently purchased a WRX MY00 5spd manual sedan, (turbo duh)

I just signed up with SGIO, and I am paying around $750 annually, with windscreen insurance. I have been driving for 4+ years and have never made a claim on any car. I do not have a hire car available in case my car breaks down.

Honestly, when I called up last week I stuck on the phone to some Indian guy for what seemed like 30 minutes. Finally he tried to quote me at $1200 annually, to which I laughed in his face and stated RAC is willing to give me insurance for $850. He instantly made up some story about a discount he could give me, and a few minutes later quoted me for $750.

I have no idea what this little Indian was doing, attempting to get a commission from me so he could feed his family for the next year, but he ended up giving me a great package.

Yay SGIO ? :S

Shannons are crap.

9 year old car with mods and they wont insure it because its not in a locked garage. What the hell? Its in a carport not visable from the street! Perfect driving history and 26 years old.
