Default 05 peanut WRX

After a few random posts here and there, I thought I would introduce myself.

I'm Tom. I'm an impulse buyer.

I bought a completely stock 05 WRX on impulse last year.
Like most of my impulse decisions, this one has come back to bite me on the ass (financially). However, slinging this car in to a corner and have it glyde round as effortless as a fat kid eating marshmallows seems to ease my economic burden.

What beautiful pieces of machinery these are. I feel like I have been converted for life.

The car has just reached the 100,000km mark, which is distressing as I have done 30,000kms in the last 8 months (been using the car for work - seems stupid but it makes my job more interesting) but it's time to get a bunky and leave the WRX for playtime.
I see in a lot of the sales around here, people use under 100k as benchmark for selling.
I don't know if people can tell me their experiences with their vehicles that have done this much traveling.
Am I going to start to get a lot of problems?
The car runs smoothly for the moment so fingers crossed.

The main reason for me joining this forum is to tap in to the vast amount of knowledge on here. I don't know shit about WRX's, and I don't know shit about cars in general, but I wan't to learn.
So I apologise in advance for my daft questions.

If anyone can suggest some cheap and simple mods to start off with it would be much appreciated.

Mods so far:

3" Butler TBE
18 x 7.5 Koya Inox R1's
Lovell Springs
Fog light covers
And a fully sick momo gear knob (which gave me the shits for the first week, but because of the price I persevered and now it's awesome)

Welcome - Luv the car mate
Ride height looks great and I love the wheels
Now that you have the fog light covers on get some STi side air dams (splitters) to finish it off,
then maybe a lip but it would probably be a bit low ?

Hello Tom. Nice ride welcome to the best car you very well may ever own. Even though you've had it 8 months

The reason 100,000kms is important is because it is at this time that certain things required to make the engine work reliably need to be replaced such as the timing belt and water pump is a good idea. If a timing belt breaks you get piston to vavlve contact = bad. If a water pump ceases or fails = bad.

Hope that helps

Cheers guys.
I was thinking about getting the front splitters and the cf lip because it does look a little bare without them.
My paranoia level when parking would certainly increase with the lip though. It's not that low, but I know i'd crack it eventually.

I took it in for the "100,000km service" at 92k, because I was eager, but fuck knows what they actually did (melville subarbu this is). It cost me an arm and a leg, so hopefully they did replace the timing belt and the water pump.

My odo reads 380,483 at the moment and still drives like a dream, a little puff of smoke from burning oil every now and then, but otherwise great, however mine is a 99 so I don't know how the 05's compare in the reliability/strength stakes. Surely at those km's you have nothing to worry about though. My advice though would be if you want longevity, keep it as close to stock as possible, more mods = more maintenance and $$$.

I think 100k is more of a benchmark because the resale is still at a modest price whereas anything over that the dollars will go down rapidly.

Anyway mate, welcome aboard.

Josh
