Default A GG? Start of an Addiction

A huge G'day to everyone out there in WRX land.
My name's Mick but loads of people call me Harry (as in Dirty)
I've been intending on writing my first post for a couple of weeks now but have been nervous about breaking the rules!
The SW is for South West as i'm located in Australind, I love it down here, however it is painful if you're looking for a new car.
After traveling up the freeway excited and returning home disappointed (people should be more honest in ad's) in search of a 97-00, I made one last trip to check out a bug eye wagon at a nice price.
As with some, I'd focused on the earlier shape, but there was something in this original blue wagon that made me change my mind.
Although it has a few k's under the belt, and there are a few carpark dings in it, this wagon is TOTALLY original.
I absolutely love the interior on the bug eye, happy to find such things as cruise control and 6 stack, the interior on this wagon is like new too!
I promise I have spent what little time I currently have, doing some forum based research.
I can prove this by the fact I didn't run out and buy a turbo timer,
but instead performed a quick airbox silencer removal.
I also looked into exhausts as this is really the first thing I want to change.
I know alot wont be a fan of this, however for now I just want it to sound better without spending much (will have more play money for the car early 2012), so was wondering if i could get away with this without a tune? I was thinking possibly a STI exhaust from the same year?
Also, I'm aware that there are GD's and GC's etc, (now to sound real simple),
if my car has the model GGAAK8D is it as simple as it's a GG?

Have been enjoying reading these forums from some people with great knowledge as much as owning my first WRX at 33 years, don't know why I waited so long.
Future plans will hopefully be track days....

Hopefully talk to some of you shortly, this is surely the start of an addiction (the site AND the car)
Mick.

Welcome aboard Harry Mick and enjoy your stay. I like you already despite your ownership of a bugeye because you have clearly done some homework and searching. WINNER !

Buy yourself a decent diffback muffler and you will get some nice rumble but not too much noise. I would try and buy a used Hitech Muffler if possible but thats just me. It is really a waste of money to buy any stock subaru exhaust system.

Hi dirty Mick.
Don't bother with the STI exhaust of the same year, as apart from the tips on the muffler, they are identical to yours.
As yanky Dave said, if you want the rumble, put a diff back system on. That wont require a retune.
Spend 1500-2k on some coilovers and handling mods, and you'll be set until you can afford more performance/power mods.
Welcome!

Welcome Mick, +1 for doing some research

As said, a diff-back/axle-back exhaust does not require a retune.

As Dave said a used Hi-tech system is good place to start looking

If you want pm Wayne (JDM_STYLE) as he has some new Titanium cat-back exhausts going for under $700, hard to beat (link below).

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/waynes-g...l-pricing.html

Im assuming you can just use the diff-back section of one of Wayne's cat-backs so no re-tune

Cheers,
Shane.
