Also i wouldn't touch a non turbo impreza...something like a low km dc5R is much better
Thanks just need to convince the parents.....

And $15 isnt much really for a year so even if i just use it once or twice it wouldnt really bother me

Ahh okay Ill look at them then
Thanks

You're doing the right thing by asking in advance. Of course everyone will give you their opinion because they've had the luxury of leaning by mistakes. Good luck, I remember how excited I was when I got my licence.

My only advice is: You're not invincible. :-)

I learned in a 2.0L AWD GX and it was great, enough power to get around without being stupid about it, and handled well after some decent tyres, WRX brakes, and Koni shocks with WRX springs. Had that until 1.5 years on P's, then V6 STI swapped it. Wouldn't recommend making a jump to a turbo any earlier!

The later 2.5RS's go quite well, would be fun for skidpan days etc. before you went to a WRX. Not saying they're a replacement for something like a DC2R/DC5R but not a bad stepping stone at all.

Can attest, my 2010 RS Impreza handles just as well as my GC8 WRX did, if not a little better. I felt I was going faster at the RAC Long Track in it than in the WRX. Then again, theres really not alot of space to go that quick on the RAC Track, its more about how you take corners and practicing your lines and braking points - power isnt so important there. If you were doing say a Rally Sprint or a No Limits or something, then of course theres no comparison between the two, but just to get started off and learn in, its not a bad idea.

I drove the wheels off my 2.5RS ( can many people can attest to)
it was a magic car and it taught me how to drive in a sporty/performance environment.
Best car I ever owned.

Yeah stay away from anything Euro like the Fiat Cunto or the Renault Clito, early Liberty's and Impreza's are good and AWD is even better, even the older L series Off Road AWD wagons can be a very cheap learner car and great fun off road to give you even more experience.

Have a look here, lots of young Subi fanatics and really helpful bunch of guys who like to get out and have fun in their cars.
