To say that our current internet (or the Coalition's plan) is all we need in the future, is ludicrous.

Combine that with the fact that we will need to perform the upgrade anyway in the future, just highlights the apparent 'false' cost effectiveness of the FTTN plan.'

'Oh but it's using borrowed money' -- watch the cost of using existing copper networks blow out the budget. Then watch the government perform the upgrade to FTTH anyway.

Anything short of FTTH/FTTP is a waste of time, money and resources.

I am saying that the coalitions FTTN is sufficient. I dont believe that it will be speed restricted. Fiber is still Fiber, capable of in excess of gigabits of bandwidth.

I use the internet every single day for both work and for personal use.
I stream music every day using Spotify both at home using WIFI and on the 3G network when I am out and about.
I stream movies etc and occasionally download stuff.
I play PS3 online (GTA4 and GT5)
All of the above with absolutely no problems. None at all.....

How about we get our country out of the HUGE hundreds of billions of dollars worth of debt that that we are in first and then worry about the massive NBN rollout/monster civil engineering feat?

Really, all this talk about absolutely fucking nothing. Its not a big deal. Move on. Hopefully the Libs do something more constructive with our tax money and then the NBN can be sorted when we get the debt situation sorted out....
1. the huge debt you are talking about is around 11% of our GDP, and you will struggle to find many developed nations on the planet with lower public debt to GDP ratio than Australia.
2. again, the NBN is off budget and has nothing to do with the current budget deficit. NBN is a revenue generating project which will pay for itself from people subsribing to it.
3. the argument that "copper is good enough, who needs fibre" is a mirror argument of "iron is good enoguh, who needs copper". Parliament Arguing About Copper Wires In 1910 Makes For Some Amazing Reading | Gizmodo Australia
4. bandwidth requirement grows at exponential speed. I highly doubt copper wire will be able to support multiple homes streaming 4K movies, which is likely what will happens in a couple of years. Just because we haven't invented things that require high speed internet yet, doesn't mean these things wont be invented in the future (people thought they didn't need cars before they were invented and horses were fine for centuries).

We dont NEED 4K Streaming. Its a luxury. Its a want, not a need.

How are you going to stream your 4K when you cant afford to pay your power bills, or you cant afford to pay to be a subscriber to NBN anymore because your cost of living is through the roof.

How will you watch your 4K when you have died of dehydration when we run out of water because we never built infrastructure for that, instead we bought NBN? I know this one is an extreme and is... somewhat unlikely, but still plausable. Just an example.

I am not saying we will not need it in the future. I am not that oblivious.

What I mean is if you really want it, then you can pay for it yourself. Not out of my tax payer dollars. They should be used (at this present time) for far more important things.

I'll put it in car terms for everyone.....
IF you want a fast car, an STI, an EVO, a Fezza whatever... then you have to pay for it, out of your own hard earned cash. (Streaming 4K movies, downloading a blueray rip in 5 seconds...same/same)

If you just want to get from A to B and don't need anything fast then you buy a Camry.
You get my drift?

Why is having instantaneously fast internet any different than the above? Do you need it to live? Just like Foxtel as well. If you want/need it then you have to pay for it.

Why is the NBN the single biggest talking point when it comes to politics right now?
It makes absolutely ZERO sense, and just highlights the "I WANT IT NOW!" behaviours of the human race.

All the people out there campaigning about it right now sound like my 4 year old asking for fucking lollies at 8.30am....
Wait till after lunch peeps, chill the fuck out!

how is that related to why we SHOULDN'T have FTTP? I am not sure if raising a government debt to invest in something that is expected to generate profit net of interest costs will cause costs of living to go through the roof. can you please demonstrate the cause and effect of your argument?

Why don't we need better infrastructure?

Go on, tell me.

Why is a plan 2/3 of the cost yet 1/8 (or less) of the performance a viable option?

1. again, how many times do I have to say it doesn't come out of our tax. I sincerely hope you understood the previous sentence. if not, read the following: How are we paying for it? | NBN MYTHS
2. the point of having government to do the whole thing in one go is economy to scale. the budgeted cost of installation under labor is $2,400 per household and you can expect to pay up to $6,000 if you want to do it under Liberals. Your example of talking about one car only is invalid as you are the ultimate decision maker and the benefit of the car is mutually exclusive to you. Economy to scale does not apply to an individual car. Think of it as engine oil, does it cost less to buy one bottle or do a group buy with other members for a crate and then distribute it so everyone pay less?
