Talk to Mao at EvolutionR, his prices for ecu/tunes on GD/01+ will surprise you.

I bought an 01 Bug eye a few years ago that had an older stand alone Link possibly 44s tuned for front mount, 3" TBE, 550cc injectors Bosch pump and a whopping TD04 and I'm pretty sure the Brant immobiliser still worked with the Link, I put it back to stock before I drove it as the engine was blown, Link is still sitting in it's original box somewhere, even had antilag from what I was told & tuned by Leigh.

The Brant is a separate system to the transponder chip in the key head.

There are two tiny switches mounted in the same little switch panel on my board, forgot to tell you in the pm, looks like they are both set to down position.

i heard 44s tunes often run like pigs if you don't spend a fairly decent amount of time on them

I had a 44S before my MoTeC came along in 2005.

Here's my experience:

- it idled nicely

- it worked well with my brant alarm

- it ran relatively smoothly, smoother than many other cars id driven with other aftermarket ECUs at the time.. the only thing I didn't like was the fairly aggressive injector cut off when going off the throttle, which was slightly annoying in start stop traffic (caused a little bit of shunting).

- fuel economy wasn't too bad at all believe it or not, no worse than my MoTeC

- the antilag is tricky to setup and requires a kicker solenoid.

- it made AWESOME power and torque.. can't remember exactly but with the Link, exhaust, fuel pump and VF22 (stock everything else including injectors, cooler, airbox), I ran 12.74 at the plex.. in 2004, that was fairly moving.

I had it tuned by Leigh Hynes. I personally wouldnt take a 44S to anyone else. If I had my time again, I'd probably have left my car in its 2004 trim as above, and fitted some injectors and an STi cooler, and not run antilag (which popped my first motor).. as the Link and VF22 setup is the most fun I had in my car in the 10 years I owned it.

I loved it and only changed because the MoTeC came along for dirt cheap.

That could be said with any tunes if insufficient time is put into it
