I have a g4 in my car , 2002 b4 liberty same immobiliser , if I use my blind key ( without the chip ) I can crank the car but the heart beat light doesn't come on , no firing unless
I hold the other key close to the ignition |

G4 uses the key reader signal stripped down to a simple 'Go-NO Go' switch, the factory ecu verifies the read code versus the stored code in the ECU.
Have you tried the transponder from another same model Subaru to see if it accepts any valid chip? what about the 44s? Is it the same deal as the G4?

I don't get faults codes from the ecu like I used to but, all I know is that the 2001-2002 bugeye is similar to the b4 liberty , the best person for a straight out answer would be to call al from am motorsport in qld as he deals with Subaru ecu installations on a daily basis ,
He spliced my sti loom into my b4 engine harness |

The 44s ran in my car the same as the g4 , stock bugeye ecu didn't run , but I expected that.

i nearly gaurntee that the 44s will work in your bugeye , and that the go no go signal is retained , as u can start my lib on the 44s with out the chipped key.
that brant piece off shit is a whole diffferent story. plus i think the 44s was designed for the bugeye market only ,correct me if im wrong thou. Last edited by murfB4; 05-06-2012 at 06:43 PM. |

A couple of things here,
One, the 44s has knock control, rather basic, but it does have it. Which makes the fact that the G4 doesn't have it rather annoying Two, the factory immobiliser still works, if you have a Link and you buy a new key, you need to refit a factory ECU, code the key with Select Monitor, and then you can refit your Link. But you can just plug the Link in without needing to recode keys. Three, I agree with Balistic on the way the cars drive with a Link, I had a 44s in my car, so torquey and responsive compared to MAF tune. Having said that, I've upgraded to a G4 and it is so much better then the 44s I had before, especially regarding the little things like cold start, overrun fuel cut and the actual software itself. The 44s is old now, but speed/density is definitely the way to go, air flow meters suck. You should be able to pick one up pretty cheap, then save and get a G4 or a Vipec (same, same). Just remember, its all in the tune.
