im pretty sure everything in the car is stock standard, and ill have to ask rms for the code as they were the ones who told me that the sensor was the one causing the CEL. i notice no difference in the car when the lights on and it goes away usually after a few minutes or if i stop and restart the car.

I picked one of these up as per the part number shown from Petroject today.
The plug at the end is slightly different to mine and doesn't fit. It has a larger single blade section in the center of the plug, where as the has 2 equal sized blades. Ended up having to swap the plugs over to get it sorted.

But touch wood, It might have just solve a small surging issue under light throttle.

Moral of the story the part number above was not a direct fit on my '99 MY00 WRX.

yeah i had to do this for my forester, i thought the foz had a different plug to the wrx as that part number is directly from bosch catalogue, i ended up poping the pins out of the plug with a tiny screwdriver & popped them into my old plug, sorry for the misinformation mate, but glad you saved over genuine subaru for the same sensor

Yeah. No stress. I'd love to know what the part number is for the direct plug in sensor though.

On another note the Bosch catalog suggests oxygen sensor service intervals at 160,000kms. Take it with a grain of salt but this could be a factor on needing replacements.

Could well be.
I tried cleaning the IACV first but it made no difference.
Swapped the O2 sensor last night and it's like driving a new car this morning. No surging, just smooth cruising from a cold start.
Definitely worth a shot.

My 99 WRX does the exact same thing when cruising up a hill but clears the cel light after stopping and starting the car!
