Sorry I didn't know $250 was cheap, it was at the high end of my budget. Most tyres I have bought are under $100 with the exception of the KU39 for about $114.

How much are the AD58R? The only price I could find for 245/40R17 was $470 per tyre and thats way out of the question for me.

Is the Hankook RS3 and Toyo RA1 not good for grip?

Honestly $100 per tyre extra would probably mean the difference between getting tyres on my car this year or the middle of next year.

Its about 25km to work through the twisty up and down hills to work, I can sit on 100km through all the bends with the 215/45R17 KU39s with 100% confidence, so I'd just like advice on something with as good or better grip in my price range.

Why not the RE002? Used them for TSW.

Yokahama S Drives are a good all around tyre, but are $300 or so each. Good grip in both wet and dry, and not much road noise.

Something like a ContiSportContact would be ok too. And closer to your budget.

If a few hundred is a bit of a big deal in terms of tyre priority, keep an eye out for sales. You just missed 25% off Yokohoma tyres.. So maybe play the waiting game so you can grab better tyres

Ended up going with the Hankook RS3, just within my budget.

I'll just be using them for the summer and then changing back to the Kumho KU39 when the months start getting wetter again.

I slapped a set of RE002's on my GC last week and have been pretty happy with them so far. Much quieter than the Hankooks I was running previously, which I wasn't expecting, and the fit of the 215's over 8" wide rims actually works out pretty well. I'll get some photos for anyone interested tomorrow maybe.

Pilot sport 3 215/45/17 are on special @ bob jane $159ea... I think that's a good price for a 17" road tyre.
