please keep adding to this list and possible experiences people have had with each one. selfishly i started this thread as im in the market for one myself :D

i have the AVO tmic, my cars still not running the best, but i noticed better spool up as soon as it was fitted. its goin back in for a tune on the 23rd, so all being well problems will be solved an i can give you a comparison to when i had my last good running tune. gotta admit the process west one looks pretty sexy tho!!

reflexwrx 12-03-2009 11:22 PM

I just picked up a 04 STI intercooler as i have been told they are the best flowing out of all the top mounts. I'll let you know how it performs. I have a 05 STI one up for sale atm if your interested. $450

pmh 12-03-2009 11:26 PM

04 and 05 sti TMIC are same?
unless you got the Spec C variant with the notch at the top

Intra 13-03-2009 07:27 AM

04/05 TMIC same same.

STI cooler.. OEM and still the best IMHO

Designed to work.. designed to fit!

Kato 13-03-2009 07:43 AM

Tube and fin > bar and plate (heat sink spec).

MY08 STi cooler is meant to be the biggest to date. Smash one of them in!

waxdass 13-03-2009 08:34 AM

Spec C STi intercooler > all.

Is anyone actually using the water to air set up???

I can see how it is great for heat soak when stationary and for "Packaging" if your running out of space or an odd engine bay layout but fail to see how its going to make a huge difference in reducing intake temperatures over and above a good air to air setup.

deviant 13-03-2009 09:19 AM

I believe that water to air is not so favourable for prolonged running....say in a race situation...because evntually the water heat soaks and can not transfer heat quick enough when it passes through the heat exchanger.

A supercharged MR2 I used to have had one fitted and on the road it was great. The intercooler was always cold to the touch however if you got up it for any length of time it would get pretty hot.

good advice. i picked one up today, along with the brackets and remote clutch reservoir! somewhat dwarfs the standard V6STi one and even has the spec c style notch!

after lunch ill try and fit it up!

Riggs 13-03-2009 12:54 PM

Ive got a TSL Charge cooler (Air to air + Water to air) TMIC, should be having it fitted in the next few weeks. Spec'd to flow up to 300Kw atw I've been told but we'll see what happens...

RichX 13-03-2009 12:59 PM

08 STi TMIC doesn't have the logo on it so that's a drop in at least 10hp right there.

JDM_STYLE 13-03-2009 01:19 PM

Could always spray it on with a stencil and recover that 10hp :D

Where did you find one of those from, i wonder if it's much bigger than the previous 04, 05, 06, 07 models. How much did you pay?

Hey dude i know they are identicle, i was just saying that the guy who sold me the cooler said that these are the biggest one STI have made. But now reding further maybe the 08 is even bigger. Makes me want the 08 one now. I could sell the 04 and 05 STI coolers i have now and try to find the 08.. Not too sure if it's going to be all that much bigger. I doubt it!!

BLUES 13-03-2009 05:52 PM

It is! - so much so that the size of the scoop is probably too small to enjoy the full benefits of the increased core size. The 08 scoop/intercooler is actually huge in comparison to previous models when you park the cars side by side.

FARK! i want one of those. I reckon they would be pretty hard to find as i have been looking for them for quite some time and seen barely anything turn up. The newest one i saw was 07. Hmm Need someone to tear there brand new WRX apart so i can have there scraps. Bahahaha

Luigi 13-03-2009 06:01 PM

Not the Best pic, But its a Idea of the scoop widths of the MY09 WRX Sedan vs a MY07 STI.

going to wait till monday to fit now. car was going to mms for a new turbo so ill wait till then and get it tuned properly. from a quick fit up point of view it wont be a straight forward swap over. some kind of custom brackets and splitter need to be made but at least the massive s201 bonnet scoop can finally become practical! if it proves too big i have a MY06 Spec-C tmic which is about 90mm shorter.

reflexwrx 13-03-2009 06:36 PM

It certainly has one fat nostril. Where can i get my hands on one of those TMIC's

Hurtenstein 13-03-2009 07:15 PM

Oooo, more info on reservoir bracket please...

GOOSE 13-03-2009 09:27 PM

Trust me.

08 STi cooler = BIG!!

I was quite shocked the first time i opened the hood of one of the STi's in the showroom at work.

JWS should have a few more left in stock. Give Fats a ring on 9302 3519 before 12 on Saturday or normal business hours.

Any idea on what they are worth?

WRXRW 16-03-2009 12:40 PM

late model sti tmic in a gc8 is not that easy! best way to do it is fit the spec-c manifold as it brings the whole thing forward off the firewall. you then encounter a few other headaches including coil pack relocation and possible sensors that don't talk to each other.

207 de 16-03-2009 03:43 PM

hmm, 08 sti TMIC ey?

worth considering over an 05 sti TMIC?

Daaaamien 16-03-2009 05:36 PM

whats the best TMIC for a MY00? would a 04-07 sti intercooler fit easily?

WRXRW 16-03-2009 07:02 PM

pretty sure for all gc8's to run 02+ sti tmic's you need to use the later model clutch reservoir as it angles this to the one side. the intake manifold/throttle body in its current location may also limit firewall clerance. watch this space.

on a side note, mms have a customers 02 sti with the hyperflow water to air kit, once its rebuilt (dropped a cylinder) ill post any results.

WRXTASY 17-03-2009 10:15 AM

I have a 05 (I think) Spec C TMIC on my V5 GC8.

Running the 02+ Throttle Body and 02+ Manifold for Firewall and Strut Brace clearance.
V5 Coil Pack was relocated to the top of the Manifold with a small bracket.

Pretty sure I'm running the same V5 clutch reservoir - although it could have been shortened/chopped.

Just have to fab up a custom TMIC air splitter to fit the bigger MRT Bonnet Scoop Now. :)

J

WRXRW 17-03-2009 10:36 AM

did you have any dramas with the 02+ throttle body/tps/sensors matching up with the ecu?

afaik the smd autronic needs to loose boost control to able to run the later model tps and maybe run boost through a stand alone controller?

WRXTASY 17-03-2009 10:48 AM

Off topic but...

I should have added MOTEC M800 running the whole show with the 02+ STI engine loom spliced into the V5 WRX main wiring loom by the boys at ASG.
I was not told of any dramas - M800 Software definitely helped with selection of the sensors I was informed.

Yet to get Tuna to hook up the AVCS with the extra inputs/outputs on the M800.
Gotta thank Stace for all the advice on a smooth conversion.
:)

Doyle 17-03-2009 02:23 PM

Does anyone know how hard/what needs to be changed to fit an 08 STi TMIC to say an 04 wrx?

207 de 24-03-2009 09:18 AM

bump...

08 sti cooler and/or Spec C ones Vs 05 sti cooler...

from what I have seen they have more surface area (good) as they are wider.

so, all well and good fitting it but will the scoop seals fit it or will there be some cut/pasting needed?

TM69XMX 24-03-2009 11:39 AM

i have just fitted a GD TMIC to my GC8, pretty sure u jst put gd brackets on there... although allstars is doing mine.. dnt wanna stuff around with it = getting a tune...

but deffinately go for a newer model top mount on the GC8 they r alot bigger whight meens more cold air which meens better performance :)

You can be the 1st to try Pete ;)

The scoop opening is probably too small for the core area.

this is what Im thinking..

Even the 06 sti cooler is longer than the 05 hey? So guessing the scoop is wider as well? (06 sti vs 05 sti)

Pretty sure the 06 STi TMIC was shorter.

maddog 25-03-2009 05:12 PM

I have the MRT Bar and Plate under my bonnet with 252kw atw. The trick is to use water spray so it never gets hot. Mine stays close to 45 degC intake temps - On the track.
