It's not an 'acceleration' controller it's an Idle air controller (iac).

If you have an autronic then the factory reset wouldn't apply anyway.

I must of missed the bit where you mentioned the Autronic?....Ah you didn't! details would be nicde if you want people to help you.

But for a stock ecu using the check memory & clear memory connectors under the dash to help the ecu forget bad habits is the best method to stabilise the idle.

O.k. well perhaps your talking about an ecu reset and fast ecu learn.

The IAC valve is non-adjustable and the ecu has a set idle rpm map...It cannot be adjusted by the user to either increase or decrease the idle speed.

The ecu pulses current to the IAC (it's simply a Dc stepper motor & plunger) in reference to the engine speed. If the ecu has learned bad habits or someone has played with the throttle stop then a 30 second ecu reset wipes the idle pulse memory.

Later CAN BUS (01- on) cars can be adjusted + or - 200 rpm through the the Subaru selectmonitor (scan tool).

I was told by Subaru service that following was done to my car to reset the base idle.

1. Turn all load off
2. Select Neutral
3. Start Engine
4. Wait for radiator fan to come ON (96 degrees C)
5. Wait until raditaor fan is OFF (87 degrees C)
6. wait 10 seconds
7. Turn ignition OFF
8. Wait 10 seconds

One learning cycle is now complete

Repeat procedure above 10 times or at the minimum five times.

I haven't tried this, but I would be interested to know if it does work...

I thought you had an AUTRONIC ECU?

If you actually do:

1.Map sensed engines are sensitive to vacuum leaks AFTER the throttle body, check ALL the vacuum lines off the inlet manifold.

2. Do you have a boost gauge? If so is the manifold vacuum at idle stable? or is the needle swinging all over the place whilst it's idling away? it should be steady between 15-20 inhmg.

ALSO none of the subaru factory 'idle learn' BS applies to you dude if you have aftermarket Engine management.

Holy newbness batwoman......

And as far as cycling the engine for the ecu to learn the idle in anything from an Rs liberty to the very last GC8.. .......YOU ALL FAIL!

Here's why:

The very first time you start your car after disconneting the battery or doing an ecu reset it immediatly relearns the IAC position during the initial cold start (the ecu cycles it from fully closed to fully open once with the first ignition switch on ~ 3 seconds).......If it required "voodoo" to learn what it does everyone of these forums would be whinging about poor idling after reconnecting their battery...... It's Bull Shit but MEH!! what would I know?

The ecu controls the idle speed constantly and the factory engine managment uses the IAC as a dashpot (google it!) during over-run also. (it's constantly varying the amount of air bypassing the throttle body).

The idle 10 minute thing is for ecu relearn for a/c and fan load compensation only (which is relearned during a 5 minute drive anyhow) after you've done a hard reset....

Doing warm up / fan cycles cylces is total bull shit boys.

It has nothing to do with correcting erratic or hunting idle issues.

Everyone I know uses the "fast learn" method for superior ECU happy factor.

Google is your friend......search:

Subaru ECU reset
Subaru ECU fast learn
Subaru ECU learning capabilities
Subaru idle issues

LOL...This is for DBW (Drive By wire) for the ecu to relearn the throttle actuator...... Only applies to 05/06 onwards WRX's.
