question is this common for friction plate to rust to the flywheel? surely 5 weeks of no use would do that?

This happens alot to the Extreme brand of clutches. Absolute pieces of shit they are. I doubt it'd have enough time to have rusted that solidly on, more like it welded itself on last time you drove it. Just happend a few weeks ago to my little brothers 400hp R33 skyline. Wasn't even dropping a skid, took off as normal, boom fingered Extreme clutch. $1300 down the pisser. Good luck

Mate did it with his Supra at the drags with a fairly new clutch. Managed to break it free on the freeway on the way home. Surprised to hear it happens just sitting there with some types of clutch.

No, certainly not common. It may be more prominent if you have a top mount 'cooler with waterspray dribbling water into the bellhousing, or if the guard on the back of the underside of the engine has been left off and rain was sprayed up in there. A clutchplate material will also affect it.

When parking your car up for an extended period, just ensure it's warmed up and preferably dry when you leave it. Worst thing you can do is wash your car then store it.

Get one of these trickle chargers in future if you leave you car at home and you should have no problems:

In this thread.

Rip the keypad out and karma being a bitch your keys will get nicked the following week....
