Unhappy 5 Weeks Off & Car Wont Go into GEAR

Hey guys

well i have been away for 5 weeks & tonight i go to start my car & starts straight away which is great. BUT next thing you know i try to put into gear & no it wont have a bar of it.

so i asked the family mechanic what it could be & he reckons the pressure plate is gone??? i said but i just had the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, bearing done et about 3 months ago.

so my question is WTF is going on??? he says to take it back to the place i had the work done. there is plenty of pressure its just not grabbing, whilst the car is off it goes into gear etc.

please help would like to be equipped when i call the repair shop tomorrow.

man this really sucks

Try starting it in gear
push it out of the garage first tho
sounds like the clutch might be a bit sticky

if the slave cyl is not moving the rod/fork, i would say it or the master cyl is faulty & may have been caused by a sticky pressure plate/clutch/flywheel.
you need to check if the clutch is disengaging, so see if the rod/fork moves.
i wouldnt try starting it in gear, try rocking the car when its in gear.

If the car selects ok with the engine off, then it's definately a clutch non release problem. Possibly hydraulics but usually the over centre spring under the dash keeps the pedal at the floor at the slightest hint of air in the system. I'd bet the friction disc is rusted to the flywheel. It won't be stuck enough to drive the car (much) but enough to prevent you selecting. Easy to rectify. Select any gear with the car off, and hold the clutch down and the brakes on and try to start the car. Either the clutch will unfreeze off the flywheel or the engine won't turn.
If the starter won't crank the engine you'll have to get it in a clear area (push it onto the road) and start it in 1st gear. Just continue driving with the clutch held in and applying accellerator until it breaks itself free. It happens all the time to ski boats with soft clutches, you just gotta get it to unstick, then it'll be fine. It may make some scuffing noises for a while until all the rust gets rubbed off the friction surfaces.
