Default Alternative way to sandblasting

Okay,

Have a issue. I have alot of sikaflex 11FC on the inside of my engine bay. A way of me stupidly trying to get that shaved look. Now need to remove it. Have done most with an angle grinder but need to remove the rest.

Sandblasting will require the whole entire engine bay stripped all hardlines for brakes etc..

Now is there an alternative to do this?? Any suggestions most appreciated as this is put a really big dent to when the car will be finished now..

soda blasting : will need a repaint anyway
elbow grease : get some solvent onto it and scrub away

Yeh im getting all the holes welded in to give that shaved effect..

Solvents wont touch sikaflex asfaik..

Sand blasting may just bounce off the sikaflex also...???

Is there like a mechanical scraper that anyone knows of?? That can get into the nooks and crannies??

I tried with a dremel and it was painstaking, then went to an angle grinder with round wheel and that was quicker but the wheel is large. Plus now its very uneven and thin in places, due to me trying to rush it last night.

The thing with sandblasting is that id have to strip the entire engine bay. as the sand gets everywhere. And i dont even know if it will do the job properly??

How about call up a sandblaster or soda blaster and ask them? They will be able to answer the question straight out and we wont all be guessing.

I think if you are welding up holes and everything you might aswell do it properly... Remove everything from the bay get it soda blasted and then get it painted..

You have already done half a job and learnt the hard way as a result of it.. Do it right this time and not have to worry about it..

Just a suggestion anyway.

yes fozzy i was hoping somebody on the forum would be in the game so they could advise..

I wanted to get the firewall done also but that would mean stripping the entire interior so that the sparks from the welder dont get inside and catch the car on fire.. Thats a mammoth job in itself...

Stace, sikaflex is a great product and had the engine bay done and it looked great but then i was told that its too flexible and the paint would crack off...

sikaflex is a water sealant, originally for boats and tail lights...

i would use standard body filler if you want to do it quicker/cheaper

5" grinder with a wire wheel, pencil grinder with a smaller wire wheel, dremel with an even smaller wire wheel.

Go from big to small.
