I've just finished a set of 888s that I picked up with a set of rims that were hardly used. Saw me through a heap of events and held up pretty well to the abuse which isn't a bad thing if you are developing a style instead of hacking some softer ones to death with understeer.
Ordering some A050s towards the end of the month though.

Thanks for the advice - I was at Maximums today getting the fire extinguisher fitted and they had a set of Falkens for $365 each. Steve said the best ones (he knows of) are the Yokahama or Bridgestones which seems to follow suit with what you guys have said here.

So how much are the A050m worth each roughly and where's the best place to get them from? Are they a standard size or are they all different sizes?

eBurke how long did they last you? I want to drive on them on the street and then track. I need new tyres and don't have two rims now.

Hard to say mate because I've got a set of track rims so I would of got 10 events out of them which would of included a few No Limits nights of 30+ laps.
As far as cost I got quoted just shy of $400 a corner for the A050s fitted from Wheels World for a 17 inch tyre. Price jumps nearly $100 a corner for 18s..

Yep ~$500 for 235/40/18 each. A050m.

Best bang for buck would be the bridgestone RE55 in SR compound. Not as fast (read: sticky) as the A050 but you will get more life out it and perform particlarly well. For anyone looking for their first set of R comps any cheaper set is a good start. As Mat(t) suggested, R comps are governed by heat cycles, a heavier/harder compound will be somewhat more resilient to going off as quickly.

Whats the GG compound muggz? im heading towards the 888s as we might be able to get them for around 1450 shipped for 245x40x18s

And if these arent goverened by heat cycles then they will be the perfect street wheel also..

Hey Tino, Just snaffled this off http://www.toyo.com.au/Proxes%20R888.htm

Quote:
All Proxes R888 tyres use the "GG" tread compound. The "GG" compound is versatile and suitable for most applications and track conditions.

There are specific applications where "GGG" or "SG" tread compounds provide a performance advantage compared to the "GG" tread compound. Due to their relatively short shelf life, "GGG" & "SG" tread compound Proxes R888 tyres are available on indent order only.
I thought there was a harder compound but above seems to be whats on offer/most popular
